Must know Customs Laws

Complete and submit the Arrival Card (given in flight) to the Customs Passport Control for Customs clearance.
On clearing Customs you either walk through the green or the red exit area.
Choose green if there is nothing to declare and red if you are carrying goods and cash that require further scrutiny.
As a new immigrant (no permanent residence) you may bring the personal effects (footwear, jewelry, clothes or toiletries etc.) but need to pay a bond to the Customs. This bond is fully refundable and the money is put in interest-bearing account for six months.
If you bring any new or unused items to New Zealand, declare it in Customs and pay GST (goods and service tax) on it.
A departure fee of $25 is applicable on all (international) passengers leaving New Zealand. Rules vary according to airports but children below 12 are generally exempted.
