Visa Overview
 | A standard visit visa to UK is usually valid for six months, but visas that valid for 1,2,5 or 10 years can also be issued. |
| All visit visas can be used for an unlimited number of entries to the UK. |
| You may stay a maximum of 6 months on each visit, or to the expiry date of the visa, whichever is shorter. |
| If you are traveling to UK for reason other than tourism, the validity of the visa and how long you may stay depends on the purpose of the visit. |
| Your visa applications will not be processed until you have provided the necessary biometric information. The biometric information consists of scans of all 10 of your fingers and a full-face digital photograph. |
| Visitors are not allowed to work in the UK. The majority of people coming to the UK to work require a work permit. |
| Certain categories of visa attract the right of appeal in case of visa refusal. If you have the right of appeal this will be stated in your written notice of refusal. Family visitors, settlement applications and students who apply to spend over six months in the UK - amongst others - have the right of appeal. |
| You are not allowed to enter the UK or stay as a visitor in the UK to receive medical treatment on the National Health Service (NHS). |
| You can apply for a visit visa to travel to the UK for private medical treatment provided you have made suitable arrangements for the necessary private consultation or treatment and have enough money to pay for the treatment and support yourself and live without working or getting any help from public funds while you are in the UK. |
