| | | What services does the NHS offer free of cost? | The NHS is not a free medical service; charges are made for certain things so you should not assume that all treatments will be free. But generally, as an International Student studying on a course in the UK for more than six months, you are entitled to the same treatment as UK citizens. Under the NHS there are no charges for the following services:
 | Appointment and consultation with the Doctor |
 | Appointment and consultation with the Nurse |
 | Referral and treatment at a local hospital |
 | Treatment as an Emergency patient at a hospital (although a charge may be levied if your injury is a result of a traffic accident or if you need continued treatment as either an in- or out-patient). |
 | However, treatment for a known and existing medical problem may be subject to charges, you should discuss this with the doctor during your consultation. |

| | | What if I travel outside Europe during my study? | | Please note that International Students who are entitled to free NHS treatment whilst in the UK do not benefit from UK reciprocal arrangements within the EU if they travel to Europe at any time during their studies. Therefore, students who decide to travel either for a holiday or perhaps as part of their study programme to any of the member states of the European Union whilst studying in the UK must ensure that they take out separate travel insurance that includes medical cover. You will need to provide evidence of medical insurance if you apply for a visa to visit a country outside the UK. | | top |

| | | What if my course is for less than 6 months? | For students studying in the UK for LESS than Six Months: International Students are not entitled to free medical treatment under the NHS unless they are nationals of a country, which has a reciprocal agreement with the UK if they are:
 | Studying a course which lasts less than six months |
 | Studying a course, which because you spend a some of your time studying outside the UK, the amount of time you are in the UK is less than six months. |
