ASEAN Car Rally Arrives to India

May 17 2012

An ASEAN-India car rally that will begin in November in Indonesia is now estimated to arrive to India during the unique ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit planned in New Delhi in the 3rd week of December. The meeting will be held to commemorate the 20th year centenary of the ASEAN-India association.

Senior Union government bureaucrats and agents from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as well as Auto Car India have by now doodled out the probable road ways for the rally.

The ASEAN heads of missions in New Delhi together with Chandrajit Banerjee, director general, CII (fifth from left) PIC COURTESY/CII and Renu Pall, the joint secretary (MER-ASEAN), ministry of external affairs (centre).

One of the senior officials from CII has confirmed this move and stated that a team will soon leave for the physical mapping of the motor-able road way and understand the fuelling logistics, accommodation and boarding facility on the way to the eight thousand kilometre long stretch that will get covered in the rally that is prolonged to a 3-week-long rally. Additionally, dialogue with varied government agencies, together with the ministry of defence and home, is under procedure to settle many endorsement policies and security matters.

It was in the year 2004 that the first car rally organized. The rally was organised by the CII with the support of the Indian government. The officer confirmed that the rally was held across all nations of peninsular South East Asia, overpassing a distance of more than 8,000 km. It will start from starting in Assam, Guwahati and end in Singapore.

Symbolically, this year the rally will start right from Yogyakarta, Indonesia, on November 25. However, since there is absolutely no road link between Indonesia and Singapore, the road rally would initiate from November 28 from Singapore and cover most of the ASEAN countries Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar and finally enter India from the border of Moreh in Imphalin Manipur, come to Kohima and Bimapur in Nagaland and then reach Guwahati, Assam, where the flag down trek will take place on December 16. Some cars will thereafter proceed to Delhi. The Prime Minister, accompanied by 10 heads of states of ASEAN nations, will call over the entire gathering.
