Safety Essentials for Your Summer Road Trip

April 20 2018
Two wheeler Road Trip

Here are some tips that will ensure that your two wheeler road trip in hot weather is as pleasant as possible

In this hot weather, the urge to ride the open highway and feel the cool breeze on your face is quite overwhelming. Summer is also a good time for a two wheeler road trip, as it not only allows you to escape the heat by riding to a cooler destination, but also enjoy on your way there.

This is easier said than done though. Riding in hot weather brings about a unique set of challenges with it that can be overcome by following the tips given below.

Wear Layered Clothing

Wearing thin clothes in a layered fashion helps the comfort quotient tremendously. It is recommended to put on more layers, as most riders set out on a trip during early morning when it’s cold and the streets less congested. The layers can be removed one by one as the climate gets progressively hotter during the day.

Don’t Expose Skin

No matter how hot the weather gets, riding with exposed skin and without proper gear is not acceptable. If you feel that it’s too hot for a ride, take a break to cool yourself. Sacrificing protection on a bike for the sake of comfort is a foolish thing to do.

Take Frequent Breaks

While riding, it is easy to get lost in the moment and forget that crucial break. Not taking breaks frequently can result in an unfortunate incident, as the rider might lose focus due to increasing fatigue. It is recommended to take breaks every 100kms. In hot weather this is even more important as dehydration can easily complicate matters.

Drink Lots of Water

Riding in hot weather can lead to a faster reduction in the amount of water in the body. This loss of water leads to dehydration. Dehydration can cause loss of focus, dizziness, tiredness, headaches and even seizures. It is therefore very important to keep yourself hydrated. A bottle of water kept at an easy to reach place is very important.

Avoid Afternoon Riding

Riding in the afternoon when the sun is at its highest point in the sky is not a comfortable idea. The time that falls between 12-2 in the afternoon is the hottest time of the day. Instead of riding, this time can be better utilised in taking rest or eating lunch. This will ensure that once the climate cools down you are raring to go.

The tips mentioned here can greatly enhance your safety and comfort on your summer road trip. To ensure that the trip is completed with peace of mind, a two wheeler insurance policy is highly recommended as it insures the motorcycle owner against any expense incurred during accidents.
