Anti-Lock Breaking Systems And Why Your Car Should Have It?

November 24 2014

You hit the brakes and slow down just in time, stopping short of an accident by the skin of your teeth. How so? A little thing called ABS.

HOW IT WORKS

When you apply a sudden brake, a rotating road wheel in the ABS allows the wheel to continue laterally as directed by steering, thereby preventing a skid and offering steering control. It also helps reduce the braking distance.

ABS is automatic and uses sensors to see which wheels are abruptly stopping rotation, thereby applying hydraulic correction to the wheel. It is called anti-lock because of it prevents the wheels from locking when the brakes are suddenly applied.

ABS in INDIA

Most of the reputed vehicle brands, including Chevrolet, Nissan, Maruti, Hyundai and TATA, now offer ABS as standard. For more info, visit http://www.cardekho.com/new-cars+antilock-braking-system

A WORD OF CAUTION – PRUDENCE!

Do not think that ABS is a ticket to drive like a Formula One Racer. It is a system that minimalises the impact of damage and may just be the difference between life and death. Even an experienced driver will take time to understand its uses, new learners must therefore be cautious.

IN CONCLUSION

With modern technology at our behest, it would be wise to make use of it for the safety of mankind. Rash driving is not unknown to India and with many hit-and-run cases, Anti-lock Breaking Systems will actually help you to steer away from danger - both physical and financial.
