Sonography Centres Under Scanner all over Rajasthan

May 22 2012

Licenses of about 6 sonography centres have been annulled in Jaipur by the Rajasthan government. This is not all. The government has also issued various notices to about twenty four others for their alleged connection in female foeticide. Notices have also been sent to those who have been violating laws.

The action certainly appears to be another impact of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan's debut TV show named "Satyamev Jayate". This is because the action came just a day after the superstar had a meeting with the state Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Gehlot has assured Aamir Khan that he will certainly take up the issue as seriously as it is possible. The Bollywood actor's first episode of the show on female foeticide has created a squall that he will take up the matter of planning a fast track court with the state chief justice.

According to a senior medical and health department officer, who preferred anonymity has said that the chief minister had met state bureaucrats to know more about the degree of the delinquency instantly after the show was aired. He also said that as per the instructions delivered straight from him, the team have started cracking down on faulty sonography establishments where unlawful sex determination tests were conducted.

He added that these establishments were found violating the supplies of the Pre-Conception as well as Pre-Natal and Diagnostic (PCPNDT) Act, 1994.

"Every centre needs to submit annals of the sonography assessments each month to the region's chief medical and health general under the PCPNDT Act. But these establishments were found violating this law" said the officer.

As stated by Census 2011, Rajasthan now has 883 girls between the ages of 0-6 for every 1,000 boys. The child sex ratio in the year 2001 was 909. The state government has alarmed over the slanted sex ratio and proclaimed steps to control pre-natal sex determination assessments at ultrasound clinics.
