Right on the first day of implementation of the high security registration plates (HSRP) scheme for vehicles in Delhi, merely one centre for fitting these number plates was in operation. The centre of Burari fastened around twenty registration plates on new autos on Tuesday as per a report submitted by the transport officials. The basic process for fastening HSRP on existing autos will start on June 15 this year.
The officials are expecting the rush for fixing of these registration plates that should commence any time in the forthcoming next week because only a six-day period has been allotted for acquiring the secure number plates soon after the authorization slips submission. The subsequent centre is supposed to be set up right near Mall Road regional transport office. However, the office was receiving slips and payments only from car owners and dealers on Tuesday.
According to an official of the Transport department, the basic process of fixing plates at Mall Road will start in just a day or two. It is also believed that a total of about fourteen centres need to be established right near regional transport offices. The official also mentioned that the department is hoping the scheme to be fully operational by the month of May 20. The system will also get more streamlined the minute it goes online. It is also believed that as soon as it happens, the authorisation slips will be generated over the internet. Additionally, the waiting period for fixing registration plates will also be reduced. Many officials working at the Mall Road centre had affirmed that they received around 86 applications for HSRP fixation.
For all new buyers of vehicles, a sticker containing a registration number will be provided by the dealer. The authorisation slip will be obtained by the dealer after approaching the Motor Licensing Office (MLO). The MLO will allocate a receipt to the dealer.
