ICICI Lombard Witnesses 5% Fall in Hepatitis Claims

Hepatitis claims decline by 5% in 2015-16 as compared to the last two financial years, according to a report by ICICI Lombard. This dip was a first, after a steady rise in hepatitis claims in the last few years.

The insurance industry believes that the increase in awareness about the disease has helped to bring it under control.

ICICI Lombard received 29.71% claims in the previous year and 34.81% claims in the year before that.

A report said that the last fiscal witnessed a large number of claims in the higher age group whereas fiscal 2015 experienced a larger number of claims across all age groups. It also added that the segment claims were at 38.46% in 2015-16 among individuals aged over 75 years, higher than the 15.38% in fiscal 2015.

The highest number of claims in 2015-16 was witnessed in Surat, Gujarat at 51%, followed by Bhopal with 45%, Vadodara with 39% and Mumbai with 35%. The report stated that 48% claims came from top ten cities vis-à-vis other cities. It further added that the trend was the opposite in the previous fiscal.
