Swift and Wagon R which are Car market leader Maruti Suzuki's bestselling models have won the India Design Mark (I-Mark) for 2012. As a recognition of products that are designed well, trustworthy, reliable, value for money and manufactured responsibly, this is an important achievement for the company. The jury for the India Design Mark comprised of leading design experts and senior faculty members of India's leading design institutes. The I Mark in its opening year has been awarded to 31 products across varying categories with Maruti Suzuki's Swift and Wagon R being the only 4 wheelers to be accorded with it.
Mr. I.V.Rao, Chief Operating Officer (Engineering) complimented Maruti Suzuki's design team saying, 'The India Design Mark certificate to Wagon R and Swift is demonstrative of Maruti Suzuki India's and Suzuki Motor Corporation Japan's highly creative and capable design teams. The maturity and evolution in car designing is demonstrated in their works especially after the launch of Swift in 2005. Our strong beliefs in the first step to customer engagement being that of good design, the designers at Maruti Suzuki are now working on designing global models along with their Japanese counterparts as a part of SMC's global design team'.
India Design Mark is set to be a designing standard as only the finest designs across industries and categories are awarded the prestigious I Mark after multiple levels of evaluation most meticulously performed. The Certification process was initiated by the India Design Council in co-operation with Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP).
The India Design Marks seeks to standardize the reference for a product's looks, quality, functionality, usability and social responsibility setting the benchmark for purchase decision. It looks to increase the design awareness and promote the value of designs through exhibitions, publication and press communicating the value proposition and acting as a brand extension of the product, thereby increasing the demands for good designs by users from manufacturers.
Envisioned as a harbinger of a new industrial system which has a regard for eco-friendly, repairable and recyclable, sustainable products. The committee through also seeks to promote products that increase the competitiveness of Industrial output of the country for domestic consumption and exports, thereby improving the overall quality of life by encouraging good design.
