The Kerala Tourism Department has finally decided to launch a campaign in order to promote Bekal in Kasaragod district. This is a popular fort with history that dates back to ancient 17th century and built in 1640. The basic aim is to develop this historical fort into an international holiday hotspot by the year 2015. This tour campaign is labelled as 'Know Bekal' and has been organised jointly by Kerala Tourism and Bekal Resorts Development Corporation Limited (BRDC). The campaign is religiously dedicated to enhance consistent inflow of national as well as international tourists to the site. Tourism Minister, Government of Kerala Mr. AP Anil Kumar has confirmed the efforts and planning of the latest tour campaign.
The campaign comprises of a series of programmes including tours for various travel professionals. Other important packages include establishment of kiosks at major tour spots, road shows, light and sound shows, open theatres and a lot more. This will be a pure attempt to make Bekal a well-known name in international tourism trade fairs.
Kumar also confirmed efforts towards improving approachability to Bekal. He said that a specialized airstrip is being planned with an investment of Rs 100 crore. Huge developments are taking place Bekal. The basic aim of the tour campaign is to support the fast transformation in and across the town, together with creation of luxury resorts and developments in transportation set-up.
Our basic target is to almost double the annual tourist influx to Bekal from the present 3.2 lakh to 6 lakh by the year 2015. Chief Minister, Government of Kerala Mr. Oommen Chandy is all set to launch the campaign on May 10, this year.
BRDC, the authority responsible for Bekal Tourism Project implementation is planning to develop 6 five-star luxury resorts in the town towards the end of 2012.
