The RTO regulated autos and taxi booth facility on all railway and airport premises can be expected to come into operation by the month of June. This is an attempt to offer the best of facilities for rail as well as air passengers at railway station and auto booths who have to haggle with autorickshaw and taxi drivers right outside the Pune railway station or Lohegaon airport. Now the haggling will be just a thing of the past. The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Pune is deciding establish pre-paid autorickshaw as well as taxi stands at railway stations and airports.
These booths will be aptly regulated by the RTO unlike those who are being run by private operators these days. The pre-paid autorickshaw stand situated at the railway station is expected to be operational by the month of June. About a week has been allotted to autorickshaw unions as well as commuter organisations to describe any objection to or suggestions for the planned fare arrangement and other logistics.
A meeting planned by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), led by Pune district collector Mr. Vikas Dekshmukh, will be held the following week. This meeting will comprise of all stakeholders to sanction the proposal. Arun Yeola, Regional Transport Officer along with Vishwas Pandhare, the secretary of the RTA and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) will also be present in the meeting.
In respect to the implementation of RTO booths, Mr. Pandhare said that the pre-paid systems put in force by the RTO, Pune, in relation with the Pune traffic branch is a prudent decision. He also confirmed that the association will keep a check on overall traffic arrangements to ensure smooth running of traffic while the RTO will keep tabs on fares. The RTO authorities expected establishment of pre-paid rickshaw stand right at the Pune railway station to be operational from June.
