In a meeting held in the state' capital, Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Amrita Rawat has directed officers to prepare a complete action plan in order to exploit the tourism potential of the Tehri Dam, keeping in mind the overall Development of Tehri City and taking in confidence the local public representatives.
The minister showed her discontent over the slow pace of work and the non-utilization of the fund that the government had directed towards the Tehri Lake, she expressed her concerns that the delay would result in an unwanted increase in the state budget.
The Pratapnagar-Tehri-Ghansali Tourism Circuit has been put under priority, so as to create a master plan, which will created in collaboration with the Bhagirathi River Development Authority in immediacy.
Minister Rawat, voiced her expectations from the THDC that it would provide jobs to the locals and the dependants of the deceased, under the Veer Chandra Garhwali Tourism Self Employment Scheme, along with the maintenance of roads, the forests and the preservation of the natural beauty of the area.
Suggestions form the local MLAs and public representatives concerning the construction of Trekking Routes, Museums, Helipads, Eco- Parks, as well as projects encouraging Paragliding and Fishery Industry, as well as Adventure Sports were heard during the meeting, as well as various reports pertaining to the organizing of state level sports festivals, Water sports, Eco and Adventure tourism and the establishment of Water Adventure Centre near the Tehri Lake were presented.
A major collection of the state's revenues are dependent on the Tourism Industry, hence this step taken by the State Tourism Department looks forward to exploring newer avenues, and developing the Garhwal area of the state known for its scenic beauty and untapped tourism potential.
