Medical staffs of SVPIMSR will carry tablets to access medial records of all the patients
The Prime Minister of India inaugurated India’s first digital and paperless hospital in Ahmedabad, the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Medical Science and Research (SVPIMSR) on January 17th, 2019. As part of the Ayushman Bharat program, this multi-storeyed hi-tech government hospital will provide free treatment to the poor.
Built at a cost of Rs. 750 crores on the decades-old VS hospital campus in Paldi, the 78-metre tall hospital building is now the tallest structure in Ahmedabad. According to the Prime Minister, this 18-storeyed state-of-the-art super-speciality hospital has over 1,500 beds for the treatment of patients and is the first government hospital with a rooftop helipad for air-ambulance services.
The work for this hospital cum research institute was started five years ago by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) with state government’s support. Built on the Sabarmati riverfront and named after the visionary leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, this multi-storeyed hospital will cater to various healthcare needs of the public at large from across Gujarat and India.
The AMC commissioner, Vijay Nehra stated that the SVPIMSR will be the first paperless and entirely computerised government hospital in India where the medical staff will be carrying a tablet which will have access to medical records of all patients. Further, the hospital will also provide many advanced facilities to the patients for better and effective treatment.
“Ruling out manpower requirement, blood and urine samples and medicine transit will take place through pneumatic tubes across the hospital. This will be done through computerised digital-coded system which will be password protected. The medicines will travel 40 feet in one second and blood samples at a lower speed of 20 feet per second to prevent blood coagulation at a higher speed,” said Nehra.
