Concerned for the 1.64 lakh suffering from autism, mental retardation, cerebral palsy, and multiple disabilities (Divyang), the government of Chhattisgarh has adopted centre's 'Niramaya' health insurance scheme. Under it, a lump sum of ₹1 lakh is offered as the cover, while the state government pays the premium.
The scheme will offer same coverage regardless of the disability type under the National Trust Act. Services offered under the scheme range from routine medical check-ups to hospitalisation and corrective surgery costs at any hospital.
To avail the service, an individual must have a valid disability certificate. The state government will pay ₹250 for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families and ₹500 for remaining families as premium for Niramaya that is valid in all Indian states except Jammu & Kashmir.
Eligible individuals can apply for enrolment through the national trust website. Upon approval, a health card will be issued along with an e-card on the website. A nominal processing fee needs to be paid to the national trust during the process.
The applicant will require all the necessary documents including disability certificate, income certificate, BPL card, address proof and others for claim settlement. All queries can be referred at the National Trust website.
