Driving licence fee structure: The first question that comes to anyone’s mind is what is the driving licence fee structure? The driving licence fee structure is as follows:

The fee structure for a learner’s licence include:

  • Fee for Form 3 – Rs.30.
  • Fee for Form 6 – Rs.40.
  • The road safety cess fee – Rs.50.

The fee structure for a permanent driving licence include:

  • The driving licence test fee – Rs.100.
  • Fee for form 7 (or smart card) – Rs.200.
  • The driving licence grant fee – Rs.40.
  • The road safety cess for a licence for 2-wheeler, with/without gear – Rs.100.
  • The road safety cess for a licence for light motor vehicles (non-transport) – Rs.150.
  • The road safety cess for a licence for light motor vehicles (transport) – Rs.200.
  • The road safety cess for a licence for medium and heavy motor vehicles– Rs.500.

The fee for international driving licence includes:

  • The issue of the international driving licence – Rs.500.

Is the driving licence tax deductible?

Expenses will be counted for tax deductions only if they qualify as business expenses. Otherwise, personal licence fees do not make to the list of tax deductibles. The IRS has stated that marriage licence fees, driver’s licences and pet licences come under this category.

What are the ways to pay driving licence online?


Online LL/DL Payment Instructions:

  • Go to parivahan sewa website (Website of the ministry of road transport and highways).
  • Choose ‘Application Fee’ from the ‘EPAYMENT’ menu.
  • Enter Date of Birth and Application number.
  • Click on ‘Click Here to Calculate Fee’.
  • Verify Details.
  • Choose Gateway/Bank from the dropdown menu.
  • Enter the generated code.
  • Click on ‘Pay Now’ to make the payment.

Is the driving licence fee the same for all types of vehicles and all types of licences?

It depends on the licence being applied to. A learner’s licence will cost approximately Rs 200. A driver’s licence test will cost Rs 300. Issuing renewed driving licence will cost Rs 200.  International driver’s licence will cost Rs 1000. A driver’s licence test will cost Rs300. Issuing renewed driving licence will cost Rs200. There are various criterion for determining how much one pays. The way to find out is to go the RTO website and check out the prices for the various licences.

Is it illegal to have multiple driving licences from multiple states in India?

It is not illegal to have different driving licences from different parts of India, provided each of these licences has been acquired legally and is used for legal purposes. However, if an illegal claim is made based on these licences, then it can get the owner in trouble.
