  • Driving License Renewal

    by Santosh Kevale | Jan 27, 2023

It is a memorable moment for individuals to get their driving licence. However, certain people procrastinate or don’t bother about renewing their driving licence when it is due for expiry. Driving a vehicle without a driving licence is considered to be an offence, but still, people do it.

You have to be aware of the expiry date of your driving licence, especially when it is nearing. You need to renew it after it gets expired.

Why is it essential to renew your driving licence?

According to the Motor Vehicles Act, it is compulsory for drivers to carry a valid driving licence while driving on the road. The driving licence that has been issued by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways is valid only for a fixed interval of time. As per the rules and regulations, the application for driving licence renewal has to be made within the time of 30 days from the expiration date.

As per Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, nobody should drive without a valid driving licence. It is a punishable offence if anyone does so. If a person is caught without a driving licence, then he might have to pay a fine of Rs. 500, or it could even result in imprisonment for three months.

The validity of a permanent driving licence is 20 years or until you reach the age of 50. It depends on whichever comes first. The validity of an expired driving licence is of 30 days. Driving licence renewal is possible even after 30 days, but you will have to pay the penalty fees. The government is giving 30 days so that you can renew your driving licence after it has expired. If you do not renew the expired driving licence within a period of 5 years from the expiration date, then you will have to again go through all the procedures and apply for a new driving licence.

If your driving licence has expired, then go on reading this article to understand the process of driving licence renewal in a relaxed manner.

What are the ways to apply for driving licence renewal?

In India, driving licence is valid for 20 years. You need driving licence renewal after 20 long years. The span of 20 years is a very long time, and this is the reason why people don't even pay attention to the expiry date of the driving licence.

It might happen that you would come to know about the expiration of licence when you are asked to show your documents in front of the traffic police. If you do not want to be in such a state, then you must check your licence's expiry date and start the driving licence renewal procedure beforehand. Let us move towards the ways to apply for driving licence renewal.

There are two ways to apply for driving licence renewal. Both these ways require some of your documents, and you also have to pay the renewal fees. So, let us have a look at both of these ways, and you choose your method for driving licence renewal.

    • Renew Driver’s licence Online –

This is the preferred procedure, in our opinion, because it saves a lot of your time. Technology has made it feasible to avail various services online so, there is no need for you to visit the Regional Transport Office (RTO) every time.

Visit the link of RTO to begin your process of online driving licence renewal.

First of all, select the Indian state in the field of residence. After that, click on apply online and in that, the option of services related to the driving licence. When you click on it, you will be redirected to the driving licence renewal form. The licence renewal form will have several fields, and you need to fill them. You have to take a printout of the forms as well as the acknowledgement receipt. Fill all the details that are asked in the forms. Follow the steps that are mentioned and then upload your documents. After the completion of the online procedure, you will receive a text message on your registered mobile number. The text will be that your driving licence renewal is under process. After a few days, your renewed driving licence will be sent to your home via post. The online procedure of driving licence renewal does not require any intervention of the third party.

    • Renew Driver’s licence Offline –

If you are not tech-savvy and want to go with the conventional procedure, then the offline method is suitable for you. In the offline process, you will have to visit the RTO office personally. You will have to visit the RTO office at least two times for driving licence renewal. The first round will be for the collection and application of all the forms. You will have to collect the driving licence renewal form and fill it. The second round will be for the submission and verification of all the documents and the payment of fees. Your driving licence renewal form will be verified at this place, along with all the other documents.

Once you have submitted all your documents, the RTO Officials will begin their work of verifying your documents. In most of the cases, the smart card of renewed driving licence will be provided to you on the same day. The renewed driving licence will reach your home via post, within a span of 30 days after successful verification of all the documents.

  • Benefits of Turmeric Milk: How to Consume it & How it Works

    by Vineet Yeligeti | Jul 12, 2022

Turmeric Milk or Haldi Doodh, now popularly known as 'Golden Milk' is a quick fix for many health issues. As little as a pinch of turmeric powder in a hot cup of milk is all that your body needs to heal itself.

The brilliant yellow spice has been around for centuries and since then, its relevance has only exceeded. India is the largest producer and consumer of turmeric and its relevance as a condiment can be found in every Indian household. Turmeric not only adds colour and flavour to our cuisine but is also important in many religious traditions in our lives. The traditional 'Haldi ceremony' in Indian weddings and haldi in our Puja Thalis makes this simple spice a cultural symbol.

The reason for worshipping turmeric is not superstitious. Indians recognized the various benefits of turmeric, centuries ago. Sushruta, the Father of Surgery, penned down the antiseptic and antibacterial properties of turmeric in the first known medical text in the world! Vedic tradition has been using turmeric to heal a range of ailments, from dressing cuts and wounds to preventing critical illnesses.

Alternative traditional medicine like Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha use turmeric for treating various disorders.Modern medicine too has recognized the use of turmeric in preventive and critical care. Turmeric really is the Spice of Life!

Imagine! A 4000-year-old treasure trove of medicinal properties is in your kitchen right now!

    How to consume turmeric milk?

Just add a pinch of turmeric to a cup of hot milk and drink this before bedtime to boost your health. You can also add ginger, honey, black pepper (kali mirch), clove, and cinnamon to make a 'health potion' and ideally, drink it before bedtime for optimum effect.

Turmeric in milk acts as a blood purifier and rids your body of hormonal, digestive, kidney-liver, and even respiratory problems.

How does Turmeric milk (haldi doodh) works?

Turmeric contains an active component, Curcumin-a natural polyphenol which is known for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, antimicrobial, and anticancer properties. Curcumin supplements are essential for people who either suffer from or have a tendency towards metabolic disorders or have weak bones (arthritis, osteoarthritis, etc).

Curcumin in turmeric milk boosts our cell, blood and organ health. Our immune responses become faster and more effective and the remedial properties of turmeric help our body become self-reliant against infection, injury or  disease helping us heal faster.

    Benefits of Turmeric Milk:

Let's talk about the benefits of turmeric milk from the skin to the bone!

Benefits of turmeric milk for skin

Acne and skin problems are common to adolescents and adults alike. It is terrible to have pimples and spots on the face and our confidence takes a hit. Many of our grandmother's and mothers' favourite 'nuskha' (home remedy) was to rub raw turmeric on skin eruptions.

That's because Turmeric has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties which work on acne, scars, and spots for healthy and glowing skin. Turmeric milk helps maintain healthy skin for a long time. Turmeric can help delay the effects of age on the skin, ridding you of sunspots and rashes for a younger-looking complexion. If you have oily skin, substitute dairy with plant-based alternatives like almond milk or soy milk for great results.

    Natural Blood Purifier

Sometimes, recurring internal health issues like skin breakouts, digestive and bowel problems, and hormone imbalance require a natural, organic remedy.Turmeric is an excellent antiseptic and blood purifier. Turmeric milk with honey before bed can help relieve the body of toxins and help regulate blood flow, boosting blood and organ health. Other natural blood purifiers include tulsi, neem, and honey.

Turmeric milk can help regulate hormone cycles, especially in women. Hormone imbalances can cause many internal health issues like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) or Polycystic Ovarian Disorder (PCOD). Turmeric milk is a natural, non-toxic supplement to help manage symptoms like irregular periods, painful cramps and nausea caused due to hormonal issues in women.

Many thyroid issues (goitre, hypo, and hyperthyroidism), urinary and prostate infections can be prevented and fought with regular use of turmeric in life.

Even after passing such a test, it is found that, the knowledge of the traffics signs in a driver is very low. No doubt that there are so many road accidents in India.

Implementation of Traffic Laws Must Be Strict

This waywardness found in the drivers on the Indian roads has to be strictly controlled to curb road accidents.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has suitably amended the Motor Vehicles Act with steeper fines and stringent deterrent laws to curb road accidents in India.

This law has to be suitably implemented by the appropriate authorities and with vigilance.

    Some Mandatory Traffic Signs

There are various types of signs indicating various circumstances on the roads. The mandatory traffic signs try to ensure smooth traffic flow on the roads, the most common being the traffic light signal.

The traffic light signal regulates the traffic movement on the roads so that, the vehicles can carry out a smooth and safe drive.

The traffic regulatory authorities design the vehicle movement on the roads of the cities. This design is often carried out by traffic signs such as “STOP”. “NO ENTRY”, “ONE WAY”, "RIGHT TURN PROHIBITED”, “SPEED LIMIT”, ‘NO OVERTAKING”, etc. These signs are to regulate traffic, reduce traffic jams and ensure seamless flow of vehicles in the cities.

The driver should also know and understand that, breaching the information of these mandatory traffic signs is punishable with steep fines or even the impounding of their driving license.

    Some Cautionary Traffic Signs

These are cautionary traffic signs cautioning the driver of a probable danger ahead. These traffic signs warn the driver to be more careful on the road ahead. For example, “PEDESTRIAN CROSSING”, “NARROW ROAD AHEAD”, “HAIR PIN BEND”, “ROUND ABOUT”, ‘CROSSING AHEAD” etc. These are road safety signs to help prevent road accidents which may result in injury or death.

  • Delhi Traffic Rules And Violations

    by Vineet Yeligeti | Jan 27, 2022

Traffic Rules. Something that all of us are expected to follow unconditionally because following them saves our lives. Traffic Rules Violations. Something all of us do, despite knowing that we are risking our own lives by doing so. The national capital, Delhi, has more than 7.35 million cars. However, traffic rules or rather following traffic rules has never been Delhi’s strong suit. Between 16th to 31st August 2019, 3,48,272 challans were issued in Delhi. Prior to the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, traffic violations in Delhi were soaring. The Delhi RTO had to do something about it.

In India, more than 150,000 people are killed each year in traffic accidents. That’s about 400 fatalities a day and far higher than developed auto markets like the US, which in 2016 logged about 40,000.

Road rage starts from things like illegal or improper lane changing, excessive speeding or driving on the wrong side of the road. The government is attempting to curb the road rage on Indian roads, caused by everything from speeding two-wheelers to cars not equipped with airbags. Make sure you have two wheeler insurance as it protects you with uncertain events.

On September 1, the government implemented the new Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, having 63 clauses to manage some of the most common traffic violations in the country.

Every citizen should know about these new changes in the traffic rules and regulations regardless of whether they are driving or not. Despite constant efforts by Delhi Regional Transport Office (Delhi RTO) and Delhi traffic Police, there have been numerous traffic rule violations in the national capital. These might just be cases of ill informed citizens, who are unaware of the RTO rules in Delhi.

Here is a list of offences and revised penalties

    1.General penalty

    • First offence fine: up to Rs.500
    • Second offence fine: up to Rs. 1,500

    2.Driving without a licence.

In case you are found driving any vehicle without a proper license card you will now have to pay a challan of Rs 5,000.

    3.Driving without a helmet:

Driving a two-wheeler without a helmet puts the passengers at major risk and will fetch you a fine of Rs 1,000 and suspend the driver's license for 3 months.

    4.Driving without a seat belt :

Whether you are sitting in front or driving or even sitting at the rear seat, you will have to give a challan Rs.1,000 to the Delhi traffic Police if found without the seat belt strapped on. Additionally, a 2 Hour Counselling Session will also be required to be taken from the designated Traffic Police Official on the Importance of a Seat Belt while travelling in a motor vehicle.

5.Violation of air pollution standards(emitting excessive black smoke on the roads):

With the rising levels of pollution in the capital and people becoming more and more prone to lung diseases and having breathing problems, it is imperative that everyone gets their cars checked for pollution. Delhi RTO is trying to ensure that this happens. As per the traffic rules in Delhi :

Driving without getting your car checked for pollution will cost you Rs. 10,000 and driving without a PUC(pollution certificate) copy will fetch you a fine of Rs 1,000.

    6.Jumping red lights

Jumping red lights is one of the most common traffic violations. Apparently, this is the one traffic rule in Delhi or elsewhere which people have trouble adhering to, even though all it requires you to do is to be patient.

Accidents caused by drivers who ran red lights killed 939 people in 2017, the most recent year crash data was recorded, a 28% increase since 2012, according to the AAA.

The fine for jumping a red light is Rs.1,000.

  • Red Light Jump Challan In Delhi

    by Vineet Yeligeti | Jan 27, 2022

If you are getting late, the easy solution seems to be to simply jump a red light. At least this is what the motorists in Delhi seem to be thinking. After all everyone is doing it and the red light cross fine in Delhi is only Rs 100. There was no real downside to breaking the red light signal in Delhi – the red light cross fine in Delhi least of all. The deterrent of a red light jump challan in Delhi was non-existent.

NOT ANYMORE. Delhi has been noting a spike in incidents of red light skipping which has put many motorists in danger. The heart breaking incident of three Indian Air Force personnel, who lost their lives due to another driver jumping a signal and ramming into their vehicle, has finally shocked the Delhi RTO enough to look into the signal break fine.

The Delhi RTO has made two drastic changes. One, the red light jumping is to be treated as dangerous driving and Two, the corresponding red light cross fine in Delhi has been raised to Rs.1000/-.

This drastic change in treatment by the Delhi RTO is because of the realization that jumping a red light is far from being a harmless little mistake and causes real loss of lives. They have also realized that an increase in the signal jump fine or the signal break fine is the only real way of tackling this issue.

  • How to Apply for a Duplicate RC Book

    by Vineet Yeligeti | Jan 27, 2022

A registration certificate carries the same significance as that of a driving license. A registration certificate proves that you have registered your vehicle with the RTO. Once an RC (registration certificate) gets lost, you will have to quickly get a duplicate RC.

What are the steps to follow to get a duplicate Registration Certificate Book?

There are two main ways to get a duplicate RC Book: one way is the offline method and the other way is the online method.

  • Mumbai To Goa Road Trip: Routes, Stopovers, Best Time to Visit

    by Vineet Yeligeti | Jan 27, 2022

    Best Time To Visit

Generally speaking, December and January are the best and the busiest times to visit Goa. Goa shines in a different light filled with the hustle bustle of locals and tourists. If you are planning to visit Goa during these months, be sure to plan ahead and book in advance. If you are the kind of person who prefers solitude, you may want to hit the road between February and June or October and November. Goa is the cheapest during the monsoons so that could also be an option.

    Places To Eat In Goa

Goan cuisine is one of the best fusion cuisines I have encountered. The perfect blend of chilies, coconut, rice, and other spices are mouthwatering. There is a famous saying in Konkan “Prodham Bhookt, magi mookt” which roughly translates to “You cannot think wisely until you are well fed”. Some of the famous places where you can get local delicacies are Starlight which serves a delectable Fish Thali. It is also recommended to eat at Laxmi Family restaurant for a filling experience. Crab curry and grilled crabs with some local authentic spices.

    Route

Goa is about 600 kilometers from Mumbai and it takes about 11 hours to reach if you drive without stopping.

    The route:

From Mumbai, take the Mumbai Pune Highway. Once you have exited that highway, continue with the Bengaluru-Mumbai Highway for another 500 kilometers. Continue with NH48, AH47, NH748 to Khanapur. The entire route looks like

    Mumbai--Lonavala--Kapurhol--Khandala--Satara--Kasegaon--Kagal--Belgaum-Akheti--Codli--Bandoli, Goa.

    What to Eat and Stopovers

The journey from Mumbai to Goa offers multiple places to fulfil your quest for hunger and gives you ample opportunities to enjoy nature and even take a night break if needed.

Indian and continental food is available at multiple restaurants and dhabas on the way. You will never be far away from an eatery. Here are a couple of good, well-known places to have a bite.

Namaskar Hotel at Malkapur and Dhabas at Satara are also very famous.

There are many famous stopovers which you should experience.

Malavli Hills: A wonderful place to halt and experience some of nature’s best scenes. It is a slight detour (about 5 - 10 minutes) but is totally worth it.

Pashan Lake, Pune: A perfect spot for a small picnic. This is one of the most visited places in Pune and will serve perfectly for a break.

Reaching there and places to visit

One of the first things which come to mind when we think about Goa is Beaches. And rightfully so. Goa is very well known for its beaches but there are other attractions as well which deserve your visit. Some of the most visited places in Goa include:

Baga Beach: Full to the brim with multiple activities, Baga beach is one of the most famous. If you are bored of sitting near the water, get in and enjoy some water sports which are offered here. They include jet skiing, parasailing, banana ride and many more.
