India mandates high-security registration plates (HSRP) for all vehicles due to their enhanced benefits over regular plates. Post-2019, issued plates are HSRP, addressing tampering concerns. This blog delves into the distinctions between them, highlighting the government’s effort to curb tampering issues with older, conventional plates allotted before 2019.

HSRP vs. Normal Number Plate: Unveiling the Key Differences

There is a big difference between HSRP and normal number plate. The differences have been listed and discussed below in detail:

  • The HSRP number plates are strictly made of aluminium and are non-reusable. If one plate breaks, obtaining a replacement is only possible by contacting a registered retailer. While there were no such things with ordinary number plates.
  • The HSRP number plate consists of a chromium-based Ashoka Chakra. While this was not mandatory with ordinary number plates.
  • Laser-encoded pins enhance the security of HSRP number plates, making tampering extremely difficult. These pins can be effortlessly scanned for various necessary purposes.
  • Using HSRP number plates with colour-coded stickers to convey essential information, such as the vehicle's fuel type, is mandatory. Such features were absent in normal number plates.
