  • Estimated vehicle numbers : 1 crore 34 lakh and growing
  • First recorded offence: INR 10,000 and/or a 6-month jail sentence
  • Subsequent offences: INR 15,000 and/or imprisonment for two years
  • Test: Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) test with a breath analyser
  • Threshold: Alcohol content consumed should not exceed 30 mg per 100 ml of blood

This is the new drink and drive penalty in Delhi made applicable after the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019. The stringent rules are designed to deter drunken driving and ensure the roads of Delhi remain safe. Besides impounding the vehicle, the Delhi Traffic Police can also seize the offender's driving license.
