What are the Different Types of RTO Forms?

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways offers various forms online. These forms can be availed at the RTOs for specific purposes:

  • Form 20: Application for vehicle registration
  • Form 21: To obtain a sales certificate
  • Form 23: To acquire the registration certificate
  • Form 24: Register a motor vehicle
  • Form 29: Notify transfer of vehicle ownership
  • Form 38 A: Get an inspection report
  • Form 50: For issue of a bill of lading
  • Form 51: To secure a certificate of insurance
  • Form 54: To report an accident

Vehicle Registration Process in Kozhikode

The vehicle registration process in RTO Kozhikode is similar to that in other places of the country. The steps are as follows:

  • Visit the RTO Kozhikode and submit all the required documents and forms.
  • Submit a demand draft with payment for road tax.
  • Submit all the documents and forms as instructed by the officer in charge. 
  • Clear the applicable fees involved in the registration process.
  • The process might take 2-3 days; however, it can take longer in certain cases.
  • After the completion and approval process, the RTO Kozhikode will assign a unique registration number to your vehicle.

Transfer of ownership of a Registered Vehicle in Kozhikode

To obtain the transfer of ownership of a registered vehicle in Kozhikode, you must fill out Forms 29 and 30. Next, get a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the state where the vehicle was registered initially. You must also obtain an NOC from the financer if the vehicle is under finance.

Once you obtain the NOCs, collect the Pollution Under Control (PUC) and insurance certificates.

Next, pay the required fees and taxes, which signals the completion of the registration process. Confirm the sale and purchase of the vehicle. You must also submit documents such as an address, proof of age, and passport-sized photographs for verification purposes.

Is it Compulsory to Register Your Vehicle With the RTO?

Registering your vehicle with the Regional Transport Office with jurisdiction over your area is compulsory. Failure to comply can result in the seizure of your vehicle, fines from INR 5,000/- up to INR 10,000/-, and even imprisonment from six months to two years.

When registering your vehicle with the RTO Kozhikode, you will receive an acknowledgement card. The number assigned by the RTO will be the permanent registration number and replace the temporary registration number provided by the dealer with a month's validity. You must obtain the permanent registration number within this period.

Four-Wheeler Insurance in Kozhikode

You must purchase four-wheeler insurance for your vehicle in Kozhikode in compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 regulations.
