  • Kerb Weight in Bikes Means: Understanding This Key Spec

    by Almog Ramrajkar | Apr 28, 2025

You may come across the term kerb weight when shopping for a bike or comparing different models. It is a key specification to understand as it directly affects your riding experience, handling, and fuel efficiency. Many bike buyers and riders often get confused between kerb weight and wet weight definition, but understanding the difference can help make an informed decision.

What is the kerb weight in bikes?

Kerb weight means the total weight of a motorcycle when it is ready to hit the road. This includes all essential fluids such as engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, and fuel. However, it does not account for any extra load, like passengers or luggage.

Many people confuse kerb weight with wet weight. While they are closely related, there is a slight difference. Wet weight includes everything in kerb weight but also considers any additional accessories, luggage, and optional modifications.

    Conclusion

Kerb weight is essential in choosing the right bike for your needs. It influences handling, fuel efficiency, comfort, and even insurance costs.

Two wheeler insurance is designed to protect you, your bike, and others on the road. It offers protection in case of unforeseen incidents. Accidents are unpredictable, and having insurance saves you from financial stress and offers peace of mind.

  • How to Apply for MCWG License: Step-by-Step Process

    by Almog Ramrajkar | Apr 28, 2025

If you want to ride a motorcycle in India, you need a valid driving license. For motorcycles with gear, you need an MCWG (Motorcycle with Gear) license. This blog will help you with the step-by-step process of how to apply for MCWG license.

Procedure to apply for MCWG license

The detailed steps for the MCWG license application are as follows:

    Step 1: Get a learner's license

Before applying for a permanent MCWG license, you must obtain a Learner’s License (LL). Here’s how:

    • Visit the website: Go to the official Parivahan Sewa website (https://parivahan.gov.in) or visit your nearest Regional Transport Office (RTO).

    • Fill out the application form: Choose the “Apply for Learner’s license” option and provide details like name, age and address.

    • Upload documents: Submit scanned copies of:
      • Age proof (Aadhaar card, birth certificate or school certificate)
      • Address proof (Aadhaar card, passport or electricity bill)
      • Passport-sized photos

    • Book a slot and pay the fee: Choose a time and date for the learner’s license test. The fee for an LL depends on the state.

    • Take the test: This computer-based exam on traffic rules will give you your learner’s license if you pass.

    Step 2: Practise riding

After getting your learner’s license, practice riding a motorcycle with gears for at least 30 days. You must have an ‘L’ sign on your bike while practising.

Step 3: Apply for a permanent license

Once you have completed 30 days with your LL, you can apply for a permanent MCWG license.

    • Visit the Parivahan Sewa website or your local RTO.
    • Select "Apply for Driving license" and enter your learner's license details.
    • Upload the neccesary documents.
    • Pay the application fee.
    • Book a driving test appointment.

    Step 4: Take the test

On the test day, go to the RTO with your bike. The test includes:

    • Riding in a pattern (such as an "8" shape) without putting your foot down.
    • Riding on a straight path and taking turns safely.
    • Following traffic signals and rules.

    Step 5: Get your license

Once you pass the test, your MCWG license will be processed. You will get a smart card driving license by post within a few weeks.

    Conclusion

While the application process may take some time, it is a small effort compared to the convenience of riding your bike. Getting an MCWG license isn’t just about meeting legal requirements—it’s about ensuring your safety and confidence on the road.

A well-structured licensing process helps create responsible riders who understand traffic rules and can handle their motorcycles efficiently. When riding a bike, remember to wear protective gear and acquire appropriate third-party insurance, as legally mandated in India. An appropriate two wheeler insurance policy offers financial security during unforeseen events such as accidents, theft, damage and more.

    • Force Variant: Ex-showroom price of Rs. 2,15,000.

The Trail version, which is offered in the colours Trail Blue and Trail Green, has tubed tires and conventional spoke wheels. Scram 440 specifications

Beneath the exterior's classic aesthetic is a far better engine. The new 443cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine of the Scram 440 generates:

    • 42 PS of power @ 6,250 rpm
    • 34 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm

Royal Enfield claims to have strengthened the chassis for increased durability. However, the Scram 440 is still based on the same chassis as the previous Himalayan 411. Important Scram 440 specifications include:

    • Suspension: monoshock rear, telescopic fork front
    • Wheels: 17-inch back and 19-inch front
    • Brakes: 240mm rear disc, 300mm front disc
    • Weight: 196 kg
    • Ground Clearance: 200 mm
    • Fuel Tank Capacity: 15 L

    Scram 440 features

Several Scram 440 features added by Royal Enfield increase its allure:

    • The LED headlight, an improvement over the halogen unit on the previous generation, provides better illumination.
    • Switchable ABS provide better control in a variety of riding situations.
    • The modern instrument cluster is the same device seen on the Hunter 350.

Some prospective customers may be disappointed that the tripper navigation pod is only offered as an extra rather than standard equipment.

    Conclusion

Rather than being a radical departure, the Royal Enfield Scram 440 is a well-considered development of the company's scrambler lineup. It is a more sophisticated package than its predecessor. Potential owners should consider getting the right bike insurance to safeguard their investment.

Comprehensive bike insurance coverage provides better protection, even though third-party insurance is required by law in India. In addition to basic third-party liability, comprehensive coverage offers defence against theft, accidents and natural catastrophes.
