As a part of its CSR initiative, ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Limited launched Caring Hands in 2011. Caring Hands is one of its kind programme as the whole initiative is implemented by ICICI Lombard employees as a part of their employee volunteering activities. The Caring Hands initiative involves setting up eye check-up camps for students at municipal schools. Cross functional teams at various locations are formed by employees to handle the entire exercise. In order to ensure correct vision screening, the employees engage with ophthalmologists. As an initiative, familiarisation workshops are conducted with participating employees to help them understand the basics of eye screening. The employees take up the onus of the entire exercise, right from seeking permission from schools, engaging with ophthalmologists and managing the workshops on the day of the program. The employees also take up the responsibility of collating the vision data, working with the central coordinating team to obtain spectacles from the tied up spectacle provider and finally handing over the spectacles to the children through the school authorities. Apart from facilitating camaraderie, this program provides an opportunity for the employees to hone their leadership skills as they take up the onus of executing the entire project. The eye check-up camps though planned over two months are conducted across schools all over the country on a single day.

More than 110 camps were conducted and 3000+ employees volunteered for the activity. More than 35,000 students were screened during the camp and 6,500+ specs were distributed to the kids who were diagnosed with poor vision. Since 2011, the initiative has benefited over 3,50,000 children with more than 40,000 spectacles distributed.
