  • What is Autonomous Emergency Braking in Cars?

by User Not Found | Dec 01, 2023

    Introduction

The world of automotive technology is advancing at a pace that's nothing short of astonishing. Every other day, cars are becoming smarter and faster thanks to innovations such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB). Vehicles are fitted with all types of sensors and gadgets to make our lives easier and safer. So, what is AEB in cars, and how does it work? This article takes a closer look at this groundbreaking system that’s transforming how we drive.

    What is AEB in cars?

To put it simply, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) is a safety system designed to prevent or mitigate collisions. It's akin to having an extra set of eyes on the road and an extra foot on the brakes. AEB keeps constant track of the road ahead and automatically halts the vehicle if the driver fails to take action. Now that we know what is Autonomous Emergency Braking, let’s understand how it works.

AEB relies on a combination of sensors and cameras typically mounted on the vehicle’s front. These sensors scan the road, identifying obstacles in the vehicle's path. The obstacles can include other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, or stationary objects such as road barriers.

AEB first warns the driver upon detecting a potential crash. This warning can be both visual and audible, such as flashing lights and beeping sounds. The driver is supposed to apply the brakes or steer away to avoid a possible collision.

AEB takes control if the driver fails to respond or if the system determines an imminent collision. Emergency braking is applied with force to prevent the collision or reduce its severity.

  • How to find the FASTag customer ID Using the vehicle number?

by User Not Found | Dec 01, 2023

    Updated on - 06 Feb 2026

FASTag makes toll payments quick and cashless with the help of an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) sticker on your vehicle’s windscreen. It has a customer ID, which is required for account access, dispute resolution or linking with bank services. If you can’t find your customer ID, don’t worry, the good news is that it’s easy to retrieve if you know the right process.

In this blog, we’ll cover the procedure to find the FASTag customer ID using your vehicle number, the required documents for that, ways to contact customer care for help and more.

Procedure to find the FASTag customer ID using the vehicle number

There are simple online and offline ways to find your FASTag customer ID using just your vehicle registration number:

NPCI (National Payment Corporation of India) official website:

    • Visit the official NPCI NETC portal
    • Enter your Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) and complete the verification.
    • The page will show the issuer bank and FASTag details, which may include your customer ID or help you retrieve it through the issuer.

Your FASTag issuer’s portal or app

    • If your FASTag was issued by a bank or by NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) /IHMCL (Indian Highways Management Company Limited), log in to their FASTag portal or app.
    • Use your registered mobile number or vehicle number to log in.
    • Your customer ID will be visible under account or profile settings.

    Customer support

    • If the above steps don’t work, call your issuer bank’s FASTag helpline or the NHAI helpline at 1033.
    • Provide your vehicle number or registered mobile number.
    • They will help retrieve or confirm your customer ID.

Visit a toll plaza or the issuer’s office

    • Go to your nearest toll plaza FASTag counter or the issuing bank’s branch.
    • Carry your vehicle RC, ID proof and registered mobile number.
    • The support team can retrieve your customer ID linked with the vehicle number.

Documents required to retrieve the FASTag customer ID

When requesting your customer ID from a bank or provider, keep these documents ready:

    • Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC)
    • Registered mobile number (used during FASTag issuance)
    • Government ID proof (Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence or passport)

Common issues faced while finding the FASTag customer ID

Users often face these problems while retrieving or updating FASTag details:

    • FASTag issued on chassis number: Must be updated to RC number within the NPCI deadline.
    • Incomplete or minimum KYC: Limits wallet functions until full KYC is done.
    • Wrong or outdated mobile number: Needs updating with the bank before details can be accessed.
    • Tag blocked or blacklisted: Occurs due to misuse or incorrect usage; requires contacting the issuer or NHAI helpline.

Is it important to link the vehicle number to the FASTag customer ID?

Yes, linking your vehicle registration number (VRN) to the FASTag customer ID is essential. It ensures tolls are deducted from the correct account, SMS alerts match the right vehicle and disputes can be resolved quickly.

Since January 2021, FASTag has been mandatory for four-wheelers in India. Tags issued on a chassis number must be updated with the RC within the stipulated period; otherwise, the tag may be blocked. Proper linking also avoids errors during toll deductions and ensures eligibility for benefits like monthly or annual passes.

How to link your FASTag customer ID with your bank account

Linking ensures uninterrupted toll payments and easier management of funds. You can add your FASTag to your bank account through the issuer’s website or mobile app. Many banks automatically link FASTag to your account at the time of issuance. To avoid balance issues, you can enable auto-recharge or standing instructions so your FASTag wallet is topped up automatically when the balance gets low.

Benefits of having the FASTag customer ID linked correctly

When your FASTag customer ID and vehicle number are properly linked, you enjoy several practical advantages that make highway travel smoother and stress-free:

    Seamless toll transactions without delays

A correctly linked FASTag ensures that your tag is recognised instantly at toll plazas. This reduces the chance of errors, double deductions or manual toll payments, allowing you to move quickly without waiting in cash lanes.

Accurate SMS alerts and account statements

Every toll deduction is sent to your registered mobile number. If the customer ID and vehicle number are linked, these alerts match the right car, helping you keep track of expenses and reconcile statements easily.

Eligibility for NHAI passes and discounts

Some highways offer monthly or annual passes or concessional tolls. These benefits are only available if your FASTag is correctly mapped to your vehicle’s registration number and active customer ID.

    Faster refunds and dispute resolution

If a toll deduction is made in error, issuers and NHAI can only process refunds when your FASTag details are correctly recorded. Having your VRN linked to the customer ID shortens investigation time and speeds up crediting the refund back to your wallet or bank account.

Reduced risk of blocked or failed transactions

Tags issued on chassis numbers or incomplete KYC accounts often get blocked if not updated. Proper linkage with your RC and customer ID prevents service interruptions and avoids penalties at toll plazas.

    Conclusion

Finding and managing your FASTag customer ID is straightforward if you use the right tools. Whether through the NPCI status check, issuer’s app or customer care, your ID can be retrieved easily with your vehicle registration number. Update KYC when required and ensure the VRN is correctly linked. Doing so prevents toll hassles and guarantees smooth cashless travel.

While FASTag ensures smooth toll payments and travel, protecting your vehicle with the right car insurance policy keeps you covered on every journey. Get expert insurance advice tailored to your needs by filling out the form on this page.

  • Safeguard Your Road Experience by Understanding What the Brake Fluid Is

by User Not Found | Dec 01, 2023

    Updated on 8 Dec 2025

Every modern vehicle comes equipped with dashboard warning lights, and the brake fluid symbol is one you shouldn’t ignore. This symbol lights up when the brake fluid level is low or if there’s a problem with the braking system.

Since brakes are directly linked to your safety, it’s important to understand what this symbol means and what actions to take when it happens. In this blog, you’ll learn how brake fluid works, what triggers this warning and whether brake failure stemming from this issue is covered under a car insurance policy.

Understanding the brake fluid dashboard symbol

The brake fluid dashboard symbol is an important warning light in your car that should never be ignored. It typically resembles a circle with an exclamation mark or a small droplet, often glowing red or yellow. When this light appears, it indicates that your car’s brake fluid level is low or that there may be an issue with the braking system. Driving with low brake fluid can make your brakes less effective and increase the risk of accidents. If you see this symbol, it’s best to stop, check your brake fluid and get professional help if needed.

What does the brake fluid symbol mean?

When this symbol illuminates on your car’s dashboard, it usually implies one of the following:

    • Low Brake Fluid Level: This is the most common reason for the brake fluid symbol to light up. The symbol’s appearance indicates that your car’s brake fluid level has dropped below the recommended threshold. Low brake fluid can result from brake pad wear, a leak or simply over time as the brake pads wear down.
    • Break System Warning: In some vehicles, this symbol might also be a part of a more general brake system warning light. In such cases, it signifies a broader issue with your vehicle’s braking system, such as a malfunctioning brake master cylinder, brake lines, or brake callipers.
    • ABS (Anti-lock braking system) Warning: Some vehicles may use a similar symbol to indicate a problem with the ABS, which is closely related to the brake system.

Understanding the brake fluid symbol is crucial for your safety on the road. If this warning light suddenly lights up on your car’s dashboard, you mustn’t take it lightly. Low brake fluid can lead to reduced braking performance or, in extreme cases, brake failure.

Common causes for the brake fluid symbol to illuminate

The brake fluid warning light typically illuminates when an issue arises with the braking system. A common reason is a low brake fluid level, which may happen due to leaks or worn-out brake pads. Sometimes, the sensor that monitors fluid levels may be faulty and trigger the light.

In other cases, old or contaminated brake fluid can also cause the symbol to appear. Since the braking system is crucial for safety, it’s best to have your car checked immediately whenever this warning appears.

Safety actions to take when the brake fluid symbol appears

If the brake fluid warning light turns on while you are driving, it means your car’s braking system needs immediate attention. Pull over safely and check the fluid level. Avoid driving long distances if the level is low, as it can weaken braking power and risk failure.

The safest option is to call roadside assistance or visit the nearest mechanic for a refill or repair. Acting quickly protects both your safety and your car from further damage.

Importance of car insurance in these scenarios

Comprehensive car insurance helps cover repair costs, medical expenses and third-party damages, protecting you from heavy out-of-pocket payments. It also protects you legally, as driving without valid insurance is illegal and can lead to fines and penalties. Beyond financial protection, insurance provides peace of mind, helping you stay focused on the road and knowing you are prepared for unexpected situations.

    Conclusion

The brake warning that you get on your car’s dashboard is an important sign that must never be ignored. It often indicates low fluid or a fault in the braking system, both of which can compromise safety. If it appears, check the fluid level, seek roadside help, or consult a mechanic immediately. Acting quickly prevents accidents and keeps your vehicle in good condition for safe driving.

    FAQs

    • Can I drive if the fluid light flashes?

You must not drive when you see the light on the dashboard. Instead, check the fluid level or have your car inspected by a mechanic.

    • Can I fix my brake fluid light?

In some cases, topping up the brake fluid can turn off the warning. However, the light may also indicate leaks or worn components, which require a mechanic’s inspection and proper repair.

    • What is the colour of bad fluid?

Usually, the colour of bad fluid will be black or dark brown. It indicates that the fluid needs to be changed.

  • Benefits of High Security Number Plates

by User Not Found | Nov 28, 2023

    Updated on 7 Jan 2026

Car accidents can be traumatic and stressful, raising a million questions in your mind at once and leaving you in a state of panic. Everything happens so quickly, you do not get the time to analyse the situation and react suitably.

While you are puzzled by what's happening around, it's important to ensure that everyone involved in the accident is safe. You also need to ensure that all legal steps are followed, and you get the appropriate compensation for your losses, if any.

Things to follow after a car accident

Here are a few things to do after a car accident:

    • Calm yourself: An accident may leave you in a state of panic, shock, fear, guilt, anger, nervousness or mixed emotions. While these reactions are normal, calm yourself down to deal with the situation. Take deep breaths or count to 10, or try whichever routine that makes you calm.
    • Determine injuries: Immediately after an accident, assess yourself and other passengers for injuries. Once you feel it is safe to move out of the car, check for other drivers' and passengers' injuries. If necessary, immediately call for an ambulance and wait for the help to arrive.
    • Move your vehicle: If possible, safely drive your vehicle to the side of the road, out of the path of moving traffic. This will ease the congestion on the road and also keep you at a safe distance from traffic while you exchange important information with witnesses.
    • Gather information: Talk to other drivers involved in the accident and try to get their names and phone numbers. Note down the model and license plate number of all the vehicles involved in the accident. Take pictures of the vehicles and people involved. Record statements of witnesses and make sure they agree to cooperate in the future.
    • File insurance claim: Immediately inform your insurance company about the car incident and provide them with all relevant information. Do not lie or hide facts while recording a statement, and try to be as accurate as possible. The other driver may ask for an unnecessary claim; therefore, make sure your insurer has your version of the accident as soon as possible.

    Frequently asked questions

    • Should I file an FIR for a minor car accident?

If there are no injuries and minimal damage, it is not mandatory. But it is advisable to have an FIR for insurance claims and legal safety.  Even if it looks like a minor accident, it is better to call the police. This way, you will have an official record of the accident, even if the other driver disputes it and tries to sue you. Also, police can dispatch necessary assistance in a serious accident.

    • What is zero depreciation car insurance, and how is it helpful after an accident?

Zero depreciation car insurance ensures that your insurer covers the full cost of parts replacement without subtracting depreciation, resulting in a higher claim amount and minimal out-of-pocket expense.

    • Can I claim insurance without a police report?

Some insurers may allow claims without an FIR for minor accidents, but it is safer and easier to claim with a police report.

    • What if the other driver is uninsured?

Your comprehensive four wheeler insurance will still protect you. However, recovery from the other party might involve legal proceedings.

    Conclusion

Knowing what to do after a car accident can make a world of difference in handling the situation efficiently. From ensuring safety to filing a proper four wheeler insurance claim, each step plays a vital role. If you’re someone who values complete coverage, opting for zero depreciation car insurance offers peace of mind and financial protection.

You must have  comprehensive car insurance and be in constant touch with your insurer and repair shop after an accident to settle your claim fast. Opt for an insurer that provides prompt claim settlements and a track record of a high claim settlement ratio.

Stay informed, drive safely and always be prepared for the unexpected.

  • How to apply for a high-security number plate online?

by User Not Found | Nov 28, 2023

    Updated on - 13 Jan 2026

A high-security registration plate (HSRP) is a tamper-proof licence plate mandated for all automobiles by the government to enhance vehicle security and traceability. Applying for it online and offline is a simple process that saves time and effort. Vehicle owners can complete the application through the state transport department’s website or the nearest authorised dealer.

Beyond being a legal requirement, HSRP also has a connection to your car insurance policy. This guide explains how to get a high-security number plate and its implications for your coverage.

What is a high-Security Registration Plate (HSRP)?

A high-security registration plate (HSRP) is a specialised aluminium number plate introduced to standardise vehicle identification and enhance traceability, especially across states. It helps prevent theft, reduce counterfeiting and improve road safety.

Each plate is laminated with a reflective film for visibility in low-light conditions and includes a chromium-based hologram featuring the Ashoka Chakra, a unique 10-digit laser-etched identification number (PIN) and the ‘IND’ mark in blue. These details link the vehicle’s chassis and engine numbers with the NIC (National Informatics Centre) database.

The HSRP also uses a non-removable snap-lock that breaks if tampered with and a self-destructive aluminium design that prevents reuse. Additionally, a third sticker with the PIN is affixed to the windshield for added security.

Colour codes remain standard, white for private vehicles and yellow for commercial ones. For vehicles sold before April 1, 2019, HSRP installation is mandatory. Driving without one can lead to penalties ranging from INR 5,000 to INR 10,000, depending on the state.

How to get a high-security number plate?

There are different ways to get a high-security number plate for your vehicle. The process is simple, but make sure to do it through authorised dealerships or the portal approved by your State Transport Department.

If you prefer getting the HSRP in person, consulting the nearest RTO is the best and authentic option. They will provide a list of authorised HSRP fitment centres in your area. Carry the originals and photocopies of the documents required and visit the centre. The officials will verify your registration certificate and ID and generate a booking receipt. Pay the fee and get the plate installed by a technician. It may happen on the same day or a few days later, depending on how fast the HSRP is manufactured.

Do not forget to affix the third-registration sticker on the windscreen and ensure the plates show the exact registration number, spelling and font. A colour-coded sticker is an essential part of the HSRP, highlighting the fuel type of the vehicle (orange for diesel, blue for petrol and green for EV/ CNG)Fix it too. Keep the installation receipt safe for future reference.

Process to apply online for HSRP

Use the following instructions to track your HSRP application status:

    1. Go to the official website, i.e. bookingmyhsrp.
    2. Click on “Track Your Order” or a similar option on the site.
    3. Enter your name, state, phone number, vehicle details and captcha.
    4. After submitting the details, you may access your HSRP application status and projected date of installation.

HSRP and car insurance: Why it matters?

HSRP actually plays a crucial role in the validity of your car insurance plan. Here’s why HSRP matters for your insurance:

    ● Proof of insurance

When you purchase car insurance, the vehicle’s registration number (and the plate) becomes the primary identifier for your policy. It also legally links your vehicle to your insurance coverage. Not having the HSRP could lead to higher premiums and even policy rejections during renewal.

    ● Influences claim processing

Insurance companies verify vehicle details through registration numbers when processing claims. Without proper HSRP compliance, you may face delays or complications during claim settlement. It could also lead to claim rejection.

    ● Impacts third-party liability

Third party car insurance specifically covers your legal liability towards others in case of accidents. If your vehicle doesn’t have HSRP, the lack of proper identification could complicate liability determination and the lawsuit made against you.

    Conclusion

Now that you are aware of how to get a high-security number plate, remember that they are a beneficial upgrade for your vehicle. Installing it on time will not only help you stay compliant with the transport laws but also ensure your car insurance remains valid and effective when you need it the most.

While you focus on safe and responsible driving, consider exploring insurance options that can provide financial protection during unexpected incidents. Get tailored car insurance advice and solutions by filling out the form provided on this page.

  • What is Hydroplaning?

by User Not Found | Nov 22, 2023

In wet or rainy weather, hydroplaning, also known as aquaplaning, happens when a vehicle’s tires lose contact with the road because of a thin layer of water. It occurs as a result of excessive speed or worn tire treads; this makes it difficult for tires to remove water and maintain traction.

Slowing down, maintaining good tire condition, avoiding cruise control in wet conditions, and circumventing standing water are all ways that drivers can lessen their risk of hydroplaning. When hydroplaning happens, drivers should maintain composure, let off the gas, turn softly, avoid rapid manoeuvres, and wait for the wheels to regain traction. Continue reading the following section, which will give you an insight into what is hydroplaning, including its causes and how to avoid it.

    What is Hydroplaning or Aquaplaning?

Hydroplaning, or aquaplaning, occurs when a vehicle’s tires lose traction on a wet road due to a thin layer of water. Key factors influencing hydroplaning include:

    • Speed

Higher speeds increase the risk of hydroplaning as tires struggle to displace water effectively.

    • Road Conditions

The presence of oil, debris, or uneven road surfaces can exacerbate hydroplaning.

    • Rainfall Intensity

Heavy rain can lead to faster water accumulation and higher risk.

    • Vehicle Weight and Size

Heavier vehicles are more prone to hydroplaning due to increased momentum and tire loads.

    • Driver Behaviour

Aggressive driving and sudden manoeuvres can disrupt a vehicle’s balance.

    • Proper Maintenance

Regular vehicle upkeep, including tire checks and braking system maintenance, can reduce hydroplaning risk.

You may significantly lower the likelihood of hydroplaning occurrences by following these tips.

    • Reduce speed on wet roads.
    • Drive defensively and maintain safe distances.
    • Monitor and maintain proper tire tread depth.
    • Regularly check and maintain recommended tire pressure.
    • Rotate tires for even wear.

  • What is Hill Hold Control in Cars?

by User Not Found | Nov 22, 2023

Driving a car is all fun until one has to drive on a hill or descend a steep slope. Going on a mountain, slope, or other inclined surface is the hardest, and sometimes, people lose control. Thus, to resolve this issue, car manufacturers offer the best technological instruments to make driving uphill much more accessible.

With the help of hill-hold power in cars, one can quickly drive a vehicle on any surface without any hassle, and it also ensures the safety of the drivers and passengers. However, this guide briefly answers what is hill hold control in cars and its benefits.

How does hill hold control work?

Here are some points on the query: What is hill assist control?

    • The hill-hold control is a driver assistance system that prevents the vehicle from rolling back on a slope, uphill, or any inclined surface as the driver starts driving the car from a stationary position. For instance, when an individual moves his/her car on the uphill road from a dead stop position, the vehicle may roll back when one releases the brakes and starts driving again. Rolling back of a vehicle leads to severe accidents, injuries, and sometimes death.
    • To resolve rolling backward situations and reduce accidents, car manufacturers use the latest technology and install hill-assist or hill-hold control in cars to allow optimum support.
    • The hill hold control applies brakes for a few seconds after one releases the brake to allow additional time so the driver can quickly move the vehicle without rolling back. One can keep the car in a stable position.
    • Hill hold control systems work with the help of a pair of sensors such as incline detection, clutch detection, engine torque detection, brake detection, forward roll detection, and backward roll detection. These sensors help quickly detect and measure the longitudinal incline of the hill and engage the braking system.
    • This system works automatically whenever the sensor detects the inclined surface.
    • It also eliminates the risk of wear and tear on different components in the car.

    Use of hill assist control

Hill assist control is designed to ensure a hassle-free and safe driving experience in multiple driving situations where vehicles face inclines. It is useful in the following conditions:

    • Urban driving – Useful when driving on flyovers, bridges, or steep roads in crowded cities.
    • Mountain roads – Prevents rolling back on hilly or mountainous terrain, reducing stress for the driver.
    • Heavy traffic – Helps in stop-and-go traffic on steep roads, ensuring smoother transitions between braking and acceleration.
    • Parking ramps – Assists in navigating multi-level parking areas with steep inclines.

Advantages of hill hold assist in cars

Hill hold assist comes with several advantages that enhance driving safety and comfort. Here are some key benefits:

  • 5 Tips to Keep Your Car Tires in Great Condition

by User Not Found | Nov 21, 2023

Sophisticated methods and intricate treading patterns (designed with computer simulations of real-life driving scenarios) are being employed to create durable tires for Indian roads.

An ideal tire, according to automobile experts, must aid good mileage, wear slowly, provide better steering control and give an overall smoother ride. However, the performance of your car tire depends upon its condition and may diminish over time due to normal wear and tear.

If you take some elementary care of your tires you can guarantee them a longer life and avoid spending a small fortune on a new set of tires. Read on to know five tips that will let you add more miles to your tires:

Tip 1: Maintain Optimum Tire Pressure:

A healthy set of wheels go a long way in maintaining the health of your dream vehicle. Periodic checking of tire pressure gives you more mileage from your engine, while keeping stress away from it.
An under-inflated tire will require more energy to move, leading to lesser fuel efficiency and engine stress. Optimally-inflated car tires will grip the road surface better than either under- or over-inflated tires, leading to better control on the vehicle.
A higher-than-specified tire pressure can be a hazard, since on long drives, the air inside may heat up and expand. This can lead to tire bursts. Also with under inflated tires, the surface contact area decreases dramatically and handling on wet surfaces becomes a major issue.

    Tip 2: Check Tire Tread:

New tires have around 8-9 mm of tread depth. This will eventually, become shallower as the tire begins to wear. But the tread depth should never fall below 1.6 mm. So a careful examination of tread wear should be performed before any long drive, as also periodically. Also do check for uneven wear by moving your hand over the tire. It should feel smooth. If it doesn't, either the tires aren't inflated correctly or there is a problem with alignment.

    Tip 3: Rotate Your Tires:

Rotation of tires is a good way to have even wearing of tread and a longer tread life. Rotate tires every 5,000 to 8000 kms. Given is an image of a widely used cross-pattern rotation for front- and rear-axled drive vehicles.

  • What Happens if You Put Diesel in a Petrol Car?

by User Not Found | Nov 21, 2023

Filling your vehicle's tank with the incorrect fuel type is an easy but potentially costly mistake. While misfuelling a diesel-powered vehicle with petrol is common due to the larger nozzle on diesel dispensers, it's essential to learn what will happen if diesel is used in petrol engine. This blog explores the consequences and solutions for such misfuelling incidents, emphasising the importance of using the right fuel.

What happens if you put diesel in a petrol car or vice-versa?

Given below are some of the issues that can arise from misfuelling:

Misfuelling with Diesel in a Petrol Car:

    • Clogging of Fuel System: Diesel has a thicker consistency than petrol and can clog the fuel system in a petrol car. It includes the fuel lines, injectors, and the fuel filter.
    • Spark Plug Issues: Diesel's properties can lead to issues with the spark plugs, affecting the ignition process and potentially causing misfires.
    • Fuel Filter Damage: The fuel filter in petrol engines is not designed to handle diesel, and its use can lead to fuel filter damage.
    • Engine Misfires: Misfuelling can result in engine misfires, producing exhaust smoke and potentially causing the car to stall.
    • Reduced Fuel Efficiency: The incorrect fuel can lead to reduced fuel efficiency, increasing fuel consumption and operating costs.
    • Engine Damage: If the engine is started with diesel in the petrol car, it can lead to significant engine damage and potentially costly repairs.

Misfuelling with Petrol in a Diesel Car:

    • Lubrication Issues: Diesel engines rely on the lubricating properties of diesel fuel to operate efficiently. When petrol is used, it lacks the necessary lubrication, leading to potential damage.
    • Combustion Problems: Petrol doesn't ignite in the same way as diesel. It can cause combustion issues, leading to poor engine performance, knocking, and potential damage to the engine.
    • Fuel System Contamination: Petrol can contaminate the diesel fuel system, including the fuel lines, injectors, and the fuel tank. This contamination can lead to clogs and reduced engine efficiency.
    • Starting Problems: Attempting to start a diesel engine with petrol in the tank can result in difficulty starting or even engine stalling.
    • Emission Concerns: Misfuelling can increase emissions, contributing to environmental pollution and potentially violating emissions regulations.

What are the consequences of misfuelling?

Misfuelling, or putting the wrong type of fuel into a vehicle, can lead to serious complications. Here is why this is problematic: the primary difference between petrol and diesel engines is their combustion process.

Diesel engines use compression ignition, while petrol engines use spark ignition. Because diesel is denser and oilier, it's designed to self-ignite under high pressure. Petrol lacks these lubricating properties, and when introduced into a diesel engine system, it can cause insufficient lubrication, leading to metal components grinding against each other. This can lead to significant wear and tear, possibly damaging the engine's internal components.

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your vehicle, it's crucial to use the fuel specifically designed for its engine type.

What to do if your car is filled with the wrong fuel?

If you've misfuelled your vehicle, follow these steps:

    1. Do not start the engine: Turning the engine on can circulate the incorrect fuel, exacerbating potential damage.
    2. Inform petrol station staff: They can assist in moving your vehicle to a safe location.
    3. Put the vehicle in neutral: This allows the car to be moved without engaging the engine.
    4. Call for professional assistance: Contact your breakdown service or a specialised fuel drainage company to remove the contaminated fuel safely.

Taking these steps promptly can prevent significant damage and reduce repair costs.

    Remedial instructions for wrong fuelling

Depending on the situation, different remedial actions are necessary:

    • If the Engine Has Not Been Started:

      • Do not turn the ignition on.
      • Arrange for the vehicle to be towed to a service centre.
      • Have professionals drain and flush the fuel system.
    • If the Engine Has Been Started:

      • Turn off the engine immediately.
      • Do not attempt to restart the vehicle.
      • Seek professional advice to assess and repair any damage.

Attempting to address the issue without professional help can lead to further complications.

    Tips to avoid misfuelling

Preventing misfuelling is crucial and can be achieved through the following measures:

    • Stay Attentive: Always double-check the fuel type before refuelling.
    • Label the Fuel Cap: As a reminder, a clear label indicating the correct fuel type is near the fuel cap.
    • Choose Familiar Fuel Stations: Using the same fuel stations can reduce confusion due to consistent pump layouts.
    • Avoid Distractions: Focus solely on the refuelling process to prevent mistakes.

Implementing these practices can help prevent the inconvenience and potential costs associated with misfuelling that could impact the premium and other components of your car insurance policy.

    Conclusion

Now you know what happens if you put diesel in a petrol car and vice versa. It is a more common mistake than one might think. You must stay focused and alert when refuelling your vehicle to avoid such errors. Avoid refuelling when tired, place reminders near the fuel cap, and always use the correct fuel type. Additionally, having car insurance is a legal requirement in many countries, providing financial protection in case of accidents, theft, or damage. Car owners must be adequately insured to avoid legal penalties and financial risks.

  • How Many Times Can You Claim Car Insurance?

by User Not Found | Nov 21, 2023

You probably know that car insurance provides vehicle owners with financial security and peace of mind. It is a safeguard in the face of unexpected events, whether it is a minor fender-bender or a major collision. One common question is, "How many times can car insurance be claimed?" The answer might surprise you. Here, we will explore the possibilities and repercussions of making multiple claims under your car insurance policy, along with how these claims might affect your coverage and premiums.

How Many Claims Are Allowed in Car Insurance in a Year?

The good news for policyholders is that there is generally no restriction on the number of claims you can make under your car insurance policy within a given year. The objective of car insurance is to serve as your financial safety net when unexpected accidents or damage occur. It does not get limited by the number of claims you can file. So, if you find yourself in situations where you face frequent damage to your vehicle due to accidents, you can confidently file as many claims as necessary.

This flexibility is a fundamental aspect of car insurance and a testament to the industry's commitment to assisting vehicle owners in need. Your policy remains in effect even after you've made a claim, ensuring you can continue receiving coverage and protection.

How Many Car Insurance Claims Are Too Many?

There is no limit to the number of insurance claims you can make in a year. However, experts suggest against filing a claim if the damage is minor such as a broken mirror. Go for a car insurance claim only in case of major repairs and accidents, as multiple claims within a year can affect your premium and nonclaim bonus.

What Happens if You Make Multiple Car Insurance Claims?

Even though there's no specific limit to how many times insurance can be claimed, you must consider the potential consequences of filing multiple claims on your car insurance. Here are some key points to keep in mind:

    • Premium Increases

One of the primary concerns with multiple claims is the possibility of an increase in your car insurance premium. Insurance companies may view policyholders who frequently file claims as higher-risk individuals. To mitigate potential future payouts, insurers often raise premiums. The increased premium can be a significant financial burden, making it essential to weigh the benefits of filing a claim against the potential cost increase.

    • Loss of No-Claim Bonus

Many car insurance policies include a valuable feature known as the No-Claim Bonus (NCB). The NCB offers policyholders a premium discount as a reward for remaining claim-free during a specific period. If you frequently file claims, you may lose this NCB benefit, increasing your premium. When deciding whether to file a claim or cover the expenses independently, you must consider this.

    • Policy Cancellation

While it's less common, there is a possibility that insurers may choose not to renew your policy if you consistently file multiple claims. If this occurs, you may search for a new insurance provider, potentially facing higher costs or limited coverage options. To avoid this situation, you must use your comprehensive car insurance wisely and consider the long-term implications of frequent claims on your policy.

    • Lower Claim Settlements

Frequent claims can lead to insurers scrutinising each claim more closely, resulting in lower claim settlements. As insurance companies perceive you as a higher risk, they may be less willing to provide full compensation for your claims. It's important to be prepared for the potential of lower claim settlements if you file multiple claims.

    • Deductibles

Most car insurance policies come with deductibles, representing the portion of repair costs the policyholder is responsible for paying. When you file multiple claims, you may have to pay multiple deductibles. These expenses can add up and may not be financially viable in the long run.

    • Underwriting Concerns

Insurance companies use a process called underwriting to assess the risks associated with policyholders. Frequent claims can raise concerns during the underwriting process, making finding coverage harder or more expensive. It can be especially challenging if you're looking to switch insurance providers.

    • Repair Shop Choice

Some insurance providers may restrict your repair shop choice if you file claims frequently. They may have preferred repair centres they work with, which can limit your options and potentially affect the quality of repairs. Be aware of these restrictions when making multiple claims.

    Conclusion

Car insurance provides financial protection when accidents and unforeseen events occur, and you can utilise it to your advantage. However, it's crucial to consider the potential consequences of filing multiple claims, including premium increases, NCB loss, and policy cancellation. While the freedom to file multiple claims exists, using your car insurance wisely and considering the long-term implications of frequent claims on your policy and finances is essential.

  • Factors Impacting the Life of a Car Tyre

by User Not Found | Nov 21, 2023

Your car tyres are among the most essential components of your vehicle. They are the only components that directly contact the road surface, affecting your safety, the vehicle’s performance, and its fuel efficiency. Therefore, it is crucial to take good care of your tyres and ensure their longevity. Even so, many factors can determine the life of a car tyre, making it wear out faster than expected. This article discusses some of the common factors affecting your tyres' lifespan and ways to prevent or mitigate them.

What affects the life of car tyres

    • Driving habits

Driving aggressively, braking hard, accelerating quickly, or taking sharp turns are actions that apply more stress on your tyres, ultimately causing their wear earlier than assessed. Reckless driving also increases the risk of punctures, blowouts, or sidewall damage. Extend the life of your tyres by always driving smoothly, maintaining a steady speed, avoiding abrupt braking or accelerating, and following set speed limits. If possible, avoid driving on rough or uneven roads, potholes, curbs, or debris as these can damage your tyres.

    • Tyre pressure

The volume of air inside your car tyres supports the vehicle's weight and helps the tyres to grip the road properly. If your tyre pressure is too low or too high, you will increase or reduce the contact area between the tyres and the road and cause uneven wear. Low tyre pressure increases rolling resistance, forcing your engine to work harder, resulting in lower fuel efficiency and higher emissions.

Conversely, high pressure makes the tyres more rigid and prone to cracks or bursts. To prevent such problems, routinely inspect your vehicle's tyre pressure and adjust per the manufacturer's guidelines. You can locate the recommended pressure for your car on the driver's door frame, within the owner's manual, or on a label inside the fuel cap.

    • Tyre alignment

The tyres or wheels of a vehicle are connected to the suspension, and the adjustment of the suspension is referred to as tyre alignment. However, the process does not involve the adjustment of the tyres or wheels themselves. The critical factor of adequately aligning the suspension is to adjust it so that the angles of the tyres make optimum contact with the road. Maintaining proper tyre pressure is also helpful in maintaining the correct alignment of a vehicle, which even the best tyres for cars need.

    • Tyre rotation

This is the process of moving the tyres of your vehicle from one position to another to ensure even wear. Different tyres on your car may wear out at different rates depending on their location, load, and function. For example, front tyres tend to wear out faster than rear ones because they bear more weight and handle more steering and braking forces. Follow the correct rotation pattern for your vehicle depending on whether it has front-wheel, rear-wheel, or four-wheel drive.

    • Tyre tread

The pattern of grooves and blocks on your tyre's surface provides traction and grip for different road conditions. Tread helps you to stop, start, turn, and avoid skidding or hydroplaning. Your tyre tread wears down gradually as you drive, reducing its effectiveness. Worn-out tyres have less grip and can compromise safety and performance. To check the condition of your tyre tread, you can use a depth gauge or a simple coin test. Insert a coin into one of the grooves on your tyre and see how much of it is visible. If you can see over half of the coin's head (or tail), your tyre tread is too low and requires immediate replacement.

How to take care of car tyres

You can follow these tips to ensure long life and good performance of your car tyres-

    • Regular Inspections: Periodically check tyres for signs of wear, cuts, or bulges. Early detection can prevent potential failures.
    • Maintain Correct Tyre Pressure: Regularly monitor and adjust tyre pressure according to the manufacturer's specifications to ensure optimal performance.
    • Wheel Alignment and Balancing: Schedule routine wheel alignment and balancing to promote even tyre wear and enhance driving comfort.
    • Rotate Tyres: Rotating tyres periodically ensures even wear across all tyres, extending their overall lifespan.
    • Avoid Overloading: Adhere to the vehicle's load capacity to prevent undue stress on the tyres.

When to change the tyres of a car

The right time to change a car tyre depends upon these factors-

    • Tread Wear: If the tread depth reaches 0.5 cm or less, replacing the tyres to maintain adequate traction is advisable.
    • Damaged Sidewalls: Visible damage or cracks in the sidewall can compromise tyre integrity and necessitate replacement.
    • Extensive Use: After heavy usage, especially on rough terrains, inspect tyres for structural damage and consider replacement.
    • Ageing: Regardless of usage, tyres should generally be replaced every five years to ensure safety.

    Conclusion

Car tyres are indispensable for your safety and comfort while on the road. However, various factors can shorten their lifespan and affect their performance. By following some simple tips, such as driving with caution, maintaining optimum tyre pressure, aligning and rotating your tyres regularly, checking your tyre tread depth, and obtaining proper car insurance such as comprehensive car insurance, you can prolong the life of your car’s tyres and enjoy a smooth and safe ride.

  • How Does The E-Challan System Work In India?

by User Not Found | Nov 21, 2023

Familiarising yourself with a place's traffic rules and regulations is essential to ensure your safety and that of others. However, you may end up inadvertently violating some rules at times. In India, a common violation is driving without valid car insurance and getting caught. In such cases, you must pay a fine or face other consequences depending on the offence. But how do you know if the traffic police have issued you a challan or a penalty notice? And how do you pay it online or offline? That is where the e-challan system comes in handy.

Understanding How the E-Challan System Works

The e-challan system is a computer-generated challan launched by the Indian traffic police to penalise traffic rule violators. This automated e-ticketing system notifies drivers who violate traffic regulations through SMS or email. The Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 has made the e-challan or the electronic form of challan payment an official notification.

The e-challan system is an initiative of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), and the National Informatics Centre (NIC) implements it.

The e-challan system works in the following way:

    • The traffic police use CCTV cameras, speed cameras, mobile cameras, or handheld devices to capture images or videos of vehicles that break any traffic rules.
    • The captured images or videos are then sent to the central server, where traffic officials process and verify them.
    • Traffic officials then use the verified images or videos to generate an e-challan with the details of the vehicle number, driver's name, offence committed, date and time of the violation, location of the breach, and amount of fine.
    • The traffic department sends the e-challan to the registered mobile number or email address of the vehicle owner or driver through SMS or email. The vehicle owner or driver can also check their e-challan status online by visiting the official website of MoRTH or using the e-challan app.
    • The vehicle owner or driver must pay their e-challan online using a debit or credit card or net banking, UPI, and wallet. To pay offline, they must visit any designated traffic police station or court within 60 days from the issue date.
    • Once the payment is acknowledged, the vehicle owner or driver will receive a confirmation message or receipt as proof of payment.

    Conclusion

The integrated e-challan system is an innovative and efficient way of enforcing traffic rules and regulations in India. It helps reduce corruption, increase transparency, save time and resources, and improve road safety. The e-challan system also encourages drivers to follow traffic rules and avoid penalties. However, it is also essential for drivers to be aware of their rights and responsibilities while dealing with e-challans. They should always carefully check their e-challan details before making payments and report any discrepancies or errors to the concerned authorities. They should also keep their vehicle documents updated and carry them while driving. By doing so, they can avoid any unnecessary hassles and enjoy a smooth and smooth and safe driving experience. Having valid third party car insurance further ensures compliance with legal requirements and protects you financially in case of unforeseen incidents. For any concerns or corrections related to violations, drivers can also reach out to their respective RTO for assistance.
