  • Travel Insurance with Flight Cancellation Cover

    by Almog Ramrajkar | Jul 11, 2023

Travelling is an exciting and enriching experience that allows us to break away from our daily routines. Most people explore new destinations during their holidays. However, when it comes to travelling, unforeseen circumstances can sometimes disrupt our plans, leading to flight cancellations.

It is essential to have appropriate travel insurance coverage to mitigate the financial losses and inconveniences caused by such cancellations. With travel insurance for flight cancellation, you can make sure you’re protected from these losses. Travel insurance protects you when you need to cancel your trip for various reasons. Here, we can help you understand this insurance plan better. We will also discuss the inclusions for flight cancellations in this insurance.

What does trip cancellation insurance cover?

Flight cancellation coverage provided by travel insurance protects you from financial losses when you need to cancel your trip due to a specific reason. Flight cancellation insurance covers:

    • Death, illness, or accidents:If you, your co-traveller, or other family members fall ill, meet with an accident before the scheduled departure date, or anyone in your family passes away, you will be eligible for reimbursement of the non-refundable portion of your flight and accommodation expenses. It ensures you do not get burdened with significant financial losses due to unforeseen circumstances.
    • Reimbursement of expenses:The travel insurance policy will reimburse the unused and non-refundable portion of your flight and accommodation expenses. It means that the money you invested in booking your flights and accommodation will get covered up to the specified limit in your policy schedule. Knowing that your travel investment remains safeguarded provides financial protection and peace of mind.

    Exclusions under trip cancellation insurance

While trip cancellation insurance offers extensive protection, certain scenarios are typically excluded:

    • Pre-existing medical conditions: Cancellations due to known medical issues existing before purchasing the policy are often not covered.
    • Pregnancy-related issues: Cancellations arising from pregnancy or childbirth, unless complications occur that are unforeseen and medically certified.
    • Airline cancellations: If the airline cancels a flight for operational reasons, the responsibility often lies with the airline to provide compensation or alternatives.
    • Government travel bans: Cancellations due to government-imposed travel bans or advisories, including those related to pandemics, may not be covered.
    • Cosmetic or elective surgeries: Cancellations due to non-essential medical procedures planned before the trip.
    • Financial distress: Personal financial issues, such as insufficient funds, are not valid reasons for claims.
    • Lack of documentation: Failure to provide necessary documentation to substantiate the claim can lead to denial.

How does trip cancellation insurance work?

Trip cancellation insurance reimburses you for prepaid, non-refundable travel expenses if you have to cancel your travel plan due to covered reasons. Here's how it works:

    1. Policy purchase: Acquire a single trip travel insurance policy that includes trip cancellation coverage, either as a standalone feature or as part of a comprehensive plan.
    2. Understanding covered reasons: Familiarise yourself with the reasons for cancellation that your policy covers. Commonly covered reasons include medical emergencies, death, natural disasters, or other unforeseen events, as the policy outlines.
    3. Trip cancellation: If an unforeseen event necessitates cancelling your trip, immediately inform all relevant parties, such as airlines, hotels, and tour operators, to cancel reservations and request any possible refunds.
    4. Filing a claim: Notify your insurance provider about the cancellation immediately. You'll need to submit a claim form and supporting documentation.
    5. Claim processing: The insurance company will assess your claim based on the provided documentation and the policy's terms. Upon approval, you'll receive reimbursement for the covered non-refundable expenses up to the policy's limit.

How to file a claim for flight cancellation insurance?

Filing a claim involves a systematic approach:

    1. Immediate notification: Inform your insurance provider as soon as you decide to cancel your trip for a covered reason. Prompt notification is essential, as delays can affect claim eligibility.
    2. Gather documents: Collect all necessary documents supporting your claim:
      • Medical claims: Obtain medical reports, doctor's notes and hospital bills
      • Death-related claims: Secure death certificate and proof of relationship
      • For cancellations caused by natural disasters or terrorist incidents- Official reports from relevant authorities
      • Work-related cancellations- Submit employer letters
      • Theft or other criminal incidents leading to trip cancellation- Obtain police reports
    3. Complete claim form: Fill out the insurance company's claim form accurately, providing all required information.
    4. Submit the claim: Send the completed form along with all supporting documents to the insurance provider through the designated channels, which may include email, postal mail, or online portals.
    5. Follow up: Keep track of your claim's status. Maintain open communication with the insurer and provide any additional information if requested.
    6. Claim resolution: Upon approval, the insurer will disburse the eligible reimbursement. If denied, they should provide a clear explanation, and you have the right to appeal or seek further clarification.

    Conclusion

Travel insurance with flight cancellation coverage is integral to smart trip planning. It protects you from financial losses if you cancel your trip.  With flight cancellation coverage, you can get reimbursed for the non-refundable portions of your flight and accommodation expenses. It will allow you to recoup your investment and plan for future travel. However, reviewing the policy’s terms and exclusions is essential to understand what gets covered and what doesn’t. By including flight cancellation coverage in your travel insurance, you can confidently embark on your trips, knowing you will get coverage for unexpected disruptions.

In the southern region, including Ho Chi Minh City, a tropical climate persists with high temperatures and humidity year-round. Visiting during the cooler months of December to February offers relief from the heat, with lower humidity and temperatures in the pleasant high 20s.

It is advisable to avoid Danang during the rainy season, particularly in September and October, when heavy rainfall and strong windstorms are frequent along the coast.

It helps reduce the ecological impact of tourism in several ways. It raises awareness about environmental issues such as waste reduction, wildlife protection, and energy conservation and encourages tourists to adopt responsible behaviour. • Experience the Beauty of the Northern Lights in These Top Locations

    by Almog Ramrajkar | Apr 20, 2023

Are you ready to witness one of nature's most spectacular displays? Imagine standing in awe under a star-filled sky as the colours of the Northern Lights dance across the horizon. This breathtaking natural phenomenon is a bucket list item for many, and there are several top locations around the world where you can experience the magic of the Northern Lights. From the Tundra of Swedish Lapland to the charming city of Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland and the rugged wilderness of Yukon in Canada, each destination offers its unique blend of adventure, culture, and natural beauty. So, pack your bags, grab your camera, and get ready for an unforgettable journey to witness the beauty of the Northern Lights in these top locations.

What are Northern Lights and What Causes Them?

Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis, are a natural phenomenon that occurs in the night sky in the polar regions, primarily in the Arctic. They are a breathtaking display of shimmering green, pink, red, blue, and purple lights that dance across the sky in a mesmerising view.

The Northern Lights is a result of the interaction between the charged particles from the Sun and the Earth’s magnetic field. These particles, known as the solar wind, are continuously ejected by the Sun and travel towards the Earth at high speeds. As they enter the Earth’s magnetic field, they interact with the charged particles in the Earth’s atmosphere, causing them to emit light.

The altitude at which the particles collide with the atmosphere determines the colours of the Northern Lights. Oxygen molecules at a height of around 60 miles cause green lights through collisions, while collisions with oxygen molecules at over 200 miles altitude cause red lights. Collisions with nitrogen molecules at lower altitudes cause blue and purple lights.

Two main factors influence the intensity of the Northern Lights - the strength of the solar wind and the stability of the Earth's magnetic field. The Northern Lights can be exceptionally bright and visible, even in lower latitudes when the solar wind is strong with Earth’s magnetic field disruptions. On the other hand, if the solar wind is weak or the Earth’s magnetic field is stable, the Northern Lights can be less visible or absent.

  • Personal Liability Cover in Travel Insurance

    by Almog Ramrajkar | Apr 18, 2023

The majority of us desire the experience of travelling. One doesn't need a reason to travel, but let's also be mindful of the likelihood that unfavourable circumstances may occur while we are away from home. A travel insurance plan will make up the difference financially and socially for damages incurred. Most significantly, a robust travel insurance plan will expand the coverage to such circumstances if you inadvertently injure a third person or someone's property. The range of damages covered by personal responsibility or personal liability in travel insurance extends from the lowest to the highest. If one is at fault, he/she must comply with the person's request to make up for the loss. Your travel insurance plan's liability coverage will be helpful in this situation.

    What is personal liability?

Generally, personal liability is the scenario in which you are legally accountable for an accident that causes property damage or physical harm, whether inside or outside your house. If your carelessness results in another person losing money or damage to property, you are personally responsible. You are also accountable for the loss, even though it is unintentional. So, your legal obligation to the person is known as personal liability. This also extends to any third-party injury or harm. In other words, you are subject to personal responsibility if a third party holds you accountable for the losses or damages. For instance, a guest suffers an injury in your home, or your kid breaks something like a window pane in a neighbour's house.

Accidents or untoward incidents can occur anytime and anywhere. This can take a severe turn, particularly if you get involved in an unforeseen circumstance while travelling. You may attempt to absolve the issue by resolving it legally if you consider that your conduct did not directly contribute to the other person's losses. If you purchase the right travel insurance coverage, it will be simpler to lessen the effects of personal responsibility costs with the help of personal liability cover in terms of travel insurance. Knowing that your travel insurance company will represent you in all interactions with third parties may give you peace of mind.

Is Personal Liability Cover Mandatory with International Travel Insurance?

If you're accountable for someone else's losses or injuries, personal liability coverage, also known as personal liability insurance coverage, safeguards your finances. Your family members are also covered, so you could be protected if your child unintentionally damages an expensive vase at a neighbour's house. The homeowners’ and renters’ insurance plans must include personal liability cover.

As the first measure before departing on your much anticipated international trip, avail of international travel coverage in India for a secured journey free from financial stress. Let us go over some situations where having health insurance while travelling abroad is necessary.

First and foremost, personal liability travel insurance helps us in many ways during medical emergencies. A medical problem is the last thing you want to encounter when your goal is to discover a new location and maximise the opportunity to know about the place and its culture. The right international travel insurance plan protects you by paying for your medical costs. Unexpected events can increase the cost of your travel-related expenses, like losing your baggage or Passport or simply having your journey delayed by inclement weather. Also, in the event of any trip interruption or cancellation, the coverage will pay for the unforeseen expenses you need to spend on travel and lodging.

Although it is not mandatory to purchase international travel insurance for some countries, buying one to travel hassle-free makes sense. Remember to check whether the policy you want to buy includes personal liability insurance coverage.

Features of Personal Liability Cover in Travel Insurance

All travellers should give personal liability coverage in their travel insurance some thought. In your native country, you could have dealt with similar cases that involve third-party losses and survived unscathed. If you are a foreigner, this would not be the case. The rules also vary from country to country, and there might be a possibility of the authorities withholding your Passport or cancelling your Visa.

The best part about travel insurance personal liability cover is that it does not just apply to minor accidents and injuries. Personal liability travel insurance covers a broad range of factors, such as the ones listed below:

    • Damage to a third party’s property while you are travelling in a foreign country.
    • Any harm or damage to a third party’s vehicle while you are driving.
    • Costs related to the claim settlement process and hiring attorneys if required, although this depends on the extent of coverage your plan provides.
    • In case you are at fault, your insurer will pay for the medical expenses or other costs related to the damage suffered by the third party.
    • Third-party accidental death benefit, although this depends on the extent of coverage of your plan.
    • Payment for loss of income of the third party brought on by your negligence, but this depends on the terms and conditions and sum insured of your policy.

Therefore, these are considered the primary aspects of personal liability coverage that travel insurance policies follow.

  • Tips for a Safe First Solo Trip | ICICI Lombard

    by Almog Ramrajkar | Apr 18, 2023

There has been a rise in the sheer number of solo travellers over the last few years. People yearn to embark on a journey on their own and get to planning a solo trip. One spends days packing at every possible opportunity and searching the internet for lodging, eating, and sightseeing options.

The closer the departure date, the more excited one is to be able to travel for the very first time. However, eventually, one starts to worry and gets distressed by the trip's how-tos and what-ifs. However, the desire to explore the preferred location keeps one moving forward, even though the idea seems challenging and unsettling. Starting a mental map and thinking calmly are the first steps for any solo traveller to plan right. Once you're far from home, fewer resources will be available, so you'll require a solo travel guide to make the journey go smoothly.

Pros and Cons of going on Solo Trip

    Pros of travelling solo:

    • More individuals will be around you; hence many brand-new possibilities are available to solo travellers.
    • You can do as you please, go anywhere, eat what you like, and nap when you please, which can be downright liberating.
    • You will acquire the language more quickly. When you travel alone, you may have to communicate in the local language, which enhances your language skills and produces a more genuine experience.

    Cons of Traveling Alone:

    • Even though being an outsider in a foreign nation can be exciting, you may sometimes feel lonely.
    • Lone visitors make for an easier target for predators, which could be dangerous in an unknown place.

In some circumstances, you might have to spend twice as much as you are not travelling with a friend or fellow traveller to share the expenses.

Essential Tips for Your First Solo Trip

In addition to discovering various cultures, travelling alone also helps you learn more about yourself. It’s thrilling, challenging, and invigorating all at once. You not only learn a lot about yourself but also about your surroundings. Travelling solo doesn’t have to be terrifying. This section contains the finest solo trip tips for your first journey alone. To ensure you have the best first solo trip possible, we'll go over selecting the ideal location, travelling alone for the first time, safety concerns, and a few other vital issues. The solo travel tips to religiously follow for a first solo trip are listed below:

 Deciding on Places to Visit

You must choose a place that appeals to your interests, as it will help you make the most of your journey. Stay away from beaches if you don’t like places that are too warm or get sunburnt easily. If crowds annoy you, stay away from major towns. Here are some pointers for lone novice travellers:

    • Pick a destination where you can communicate in the native tongue; otherwise, be ready for a language barrier; alternatively, you could download Google Translate or take the help of a local guide who could also act as a translator.
    • Pick a place with developed tourist infrastructure.
    • Select a well-known backpacking destination to meet lots of other travellers and learn from their experiences.
    • Choose a well-connected location to prevent loneliness and lengthy commutes.

     Planning Budget

The most crucial portion is now here: the monetary aspect! Your budget for a solo journey is influenced mainly by two factors: lodging and transportation.

    • When discussing transit, one should consider the price of getting around the particular location — sightseeing, pick-up and drop-off, etc.
    • Accommodation is the most challenging aspect, as there are both upscale and inexpensive lodging options in every metropolis and small town. You can choose a hotel or boarding house that is reasonably priced, secure and provides all the amenities needed for a pleasant stay. Before deciding, read the reviews, check the ratings, and view the images online.
    • Budget for other costs like lodging, meals, entertainment, admission fees, and travel insurance, mainly if you are travelling abroad.
  • KYC for Travel Insurance Made Mandatory by IRDAI in 2023

    by Almog Ramrajkar | Apr 18, 2023

As per the recent IRDAI regulations, from January 1, 2023, KYC (Know your Customer) will be mandatory for all types of insurance, including travel insurance. These guidelines apply to the purchase of new policies as well as the renewal of existing policies. Basically, this brings into effect the guidelines issued in August 2022. These regulations are applicable irrespective of the policy premium. Before this, KYC was not mandatory for general insurance.

In this article, we will understand why KYC for travel insurance has been made mandatory and the KYC process for travel insurance, what documents are required for it, how long the process is, and other related aspects.

    What is KYC?

KYC is a process to verify a customer’s identity, particularly in the financial services industry. Its primary objective is to protect financial institutions from scams or corrupt practices. In India, the RBI made it mandatory for all financial institutions to verify the identity of all their customers. The Prevention of Money Laundering Act of 2002 made KYC compulsory.

The KYC process involves collecting information such as the customer’s full name, address, date of birth, and identity proof like an Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, or Passport. The list of documents for verification of a person's identity may vary according to the type of policy. This process is essential for all types of financial transactions, including opening bank accounts, applying for loans, and now even for general insurance, including travel insurance.

KYC is of two types: Aadhaar-based KYC and in-person verification (IPV). Aadhaar-based KYC involves electronic verification and is both remote and paperless. Customers can complete this process online by providing their Aadhaar Number and biometric details for verification. In IPV, one can choose to do it online and submit the required documents. A person can appear for the verification process via video conferencing on Skype. Earlier, one had to be physically present for authentication.

KYC is a simple one-time process whether one chooses to do online KYC or offline KYC. Once completed, customers can use their verified identity for all future transactions. It protects financial institutions from scams or illegal activities and helps to maintain transparency in monetary transactions.

Why is KYC Mandatory for Travel Insurance?

The IRDAI issued a set of guidelines in August 2022, which made KYC compulsory for all types of insurance policies, including travel insurance plans. These guidelines came into effect on January 1, 2023. Consequently, all travel insurance companies must get KYC verification done for their existing and future clients. These regulations aim to protect the travel insurance sector from illegal activities like identity theft, money laundering, and terrorist financing and ensure transparency in the industry.

By verifying the identity and address of the policyholder, travel insurance companies can prevent scamsters from purchasing policies under fake identities and making false claims. Travel insurers will be in a better position to identify the risk profile of their customers and price their policies accordingly. KYC also helps in maintaining accurate and updated customer information. This will help in a seamless and quicker claim settlement. Following these guidelines also ensures compliance with the IRDAI’s requirements.

While it may seem like an unnecessary hurdle for policyholders, it is a necessary step towards safeguarding their interests and ensuring that they receive the policy’s benefits without unnecessary delays. In essence, it is an important step in ensuring the integrity and transparency of the insurance sector.

  • ICICI Lombard Travel Insurance Claim Settlement Ratio

    by Almog Ramrajkar | Jan 10, 2023

Travelling means different to different people. It can be for work, relaxation, rejuvenation, adventure, or just exploring the world. Whatever your motivation, after a stressful work-life balance, a trip to your favourite destination with your family could be all you need to come back all charged up.

Having said that, you cannot ignore the obvious risks and potential hassles related to travelling. For example, you may have to cancel your trip at the last minute due to unavoidable circumstances, or you may lose your baggage during transit. Also, you cannot overrule the possibility of falling sick during a trip. All such events can affect your travel budget significantly. This is where a robust travel insurance plan comes into play as it offers complete financial protection in the face of a mishap.

However, just buying travel insurance is not enough. You must ensure you buy it from an insurer who will help you during a crisis. Your insurer must have a high claim settlement ratio and promise a smooth claim process.

ICICI Lombard travel insurance claim process

It is critical to understand whether your policy covers the unfortunate incident that occurred during your trip. Proceed with the next steps only after you have confirmed this:

    • Notify the Assistant Service Provider (ASP) assigned to you soon after the incident that necessitated the claim filing. The service provider number will be provided to you at the time of policy purchase. You can also find this number on the ICICI Lombard travel insurance page.
    • Provide the required documents. For example, if the claim is for a trip extension, documents supporting the reason for the extension such as a medical report or certificate if the extension is due to illness are required.
    • Fill out the claim form correctly.
    • The ICICI Lombard claim team will review and verify your information before settling the claim. If the settlement is to be made in foreign currency, the exchange rate will be used.
  • Post Covid Travel Insurance Trends: A Survey by ICICI Lombard

    by Amit Moolya | Sep 15, 2022

The pandemic has altered many of our behaviours, especially how we travel. With the COVID-19 lockdown extending for nearly a year, most travellers found their options limited, which has changed their outlook on travel. People are more careful with travel, but they want to travel.

Now more than ever, travellers are researching their destinations before leaving and looking to the travel industry for directions. Where can they go? Is the current situation safe? Are the COVID protocols followed? In response, travel companies worldwide have found themselves emphasising cleaning protocols, allowing more flexibility in itineraries, waiving off cancelling/rescheduling fees, and keeping travellers updated on changing regulations.

To find out more, ICICI Lombard, a leading travel insurance provider in India, recently conducted a survey to understand the mindset changes regarding travel post the pandemic. The reports show notable differences in travelling behaviour across age groups, demographics, the reasons for travel and travel destinations.

The survey also revealed that over half of respondents plan to travel post the pandemic, and over 94% will purchase travel insurance for their trip -giving rise to a new breed of 'safety-first' travellers.

As travel continues to evolve, here are the broad travel trends that we'd possibly witness in the post-corona era:

Most popular travel destinations post pandemic

USA, Canada and Europe most sought-after international travel destinations by Indians post Omicron

    travel destination

Older age groups are travelling closer to home as compared to youngsters

Older age group prefer destinations closer to home

Most common reason for travel post pandemic

Travelling for business (1.2x) and medical (2x) reasons increased while dropped for education/ holiday trips

Most common reasons for travel post pandemic

Younger age group mostly travelling for education while older age group for holiday and business

Younger age group mostly travelling for education

Indians become more self-conscious towards buying travel insurance

Before the pandemic, even though the awareness of travel insurance policies was 76%, only 50% purchased a travel insurance policy unless not mandatory.

But this attitude has changed significantly since the outbreak of the virus. Today 90% of people are concerned about their health while travelling. This has increased the number of people purchasing travel insurance from 50% to 76%.

Awareness on availing travel insurance policy on international trip:

    Pre-pandemic - 76%
    Post pandemic - 90%

More Indians buying travel insurance post pandemic

    Travel insurance purchase behaviour

Post pandemic, 64% - travellers consciously searched for a travel insurance before their international trip vs 54% - travellers in the pre pandemic years. Only 22% bought as it was “mandatory with flight ticket”.

    Travel insurance purchase behaviour

Since travellers are now aware of the risk of not being covered, travel insurance becomes as essential and, in some cases, as necessary as having a valid passport. The demand for pandemic coverage has also led the insurance industry to create new products to meet those needs.

Today an international travel insurance plan typically covers medical expenses for COVID-19, trip protection & baggage coverage, emergency medical care & evacuation. These policies also include coverage of trip interruption and delay coverage if the policyholder contracts COVID-19 while travelling.
As people resume travelling again, armed with vaccinations and travel insurance policies, Covid coverage is the key reason for buying travel insurance for most respondents.

Travel insurance as necessary as a valid passport

Post covid, medical expenses including Covid coverage no.1 reason to buy travel insurance

    Reasons to buy travel insurance

    In conclusion

People's outlook while travelling abroad have changed significantly post the Covid-19 virus outbreak. The pandemic has driven travel insurance from a commodity to a necessity. Customers have intentionally started seeking out travel insurance to remain covered in case of any unfortunate events during their trip. Both awareness and adoption to opt for travel insurance has increased significantly post-pandemic.

Covid coverage is the critical benefit travellers seek while looking for travel insurance – not just medical coverage but even for non-medical coverage such as hotel & trip extension. Post pandemic, the future of travel will include reassuring these ‘cautious’ travellers in many ways. Just as 9/11 changed air travel measures worldwide, the pandemic is making travellers more mindful of health & hygiene protocols during their trips abroad.

  • What is Travel Insurance Policy?

    by Almog Ramrajkar | Aug 05, 2022

Traveling to new or unexplored places is both thrilling and expensive. Trips, especially those taken overseas, can be full of surprises—some pleasant while some could be nerve-wracking. This is why it is very important to secure your trip with travel insurance before you board that flight.

Today, many insurance companies offer customized travel insurance plans to suit your specific needs. Here's what you need to know about them.

    About Travel Insurance

Travel insurance helps you cover unpleasant situations that may arise on an international trip by compensating you financially for your losses. These include passport loss, flight cancellation/delay, hotel extensions due to lockdown, medical emergencies, Covid emergencies, and more.

    Different types of travel insurance

Based on your travel frequency, the insurer provides you with an option to choose between single-trip and multi-trip insurance.

    · Single trip travel insurance

A single trip policy is an international travel insurance policy that only covers one trip. The policy's coverage begins the day your flight takes off and ends when you return home from your trip.

    · Multi-trip travel insurance

This type of international travel plan is suited for frequent travelers. The policy covers multiple journeys to the same or different destinations up to a certain number of days.

    Benefits of travel insurance

A travel insurance policy offers numerous advantages. A few of them are detailed below:

    1. Coronavirus cover

It is practically impossible to find a country that has been spared from the COVID-19 pandemic. In light of the pandemic, whether you are traveling domestically or internationally, the risk of contracting the virus is high. Travel insurance that covers medical emergencies including Covid will help you take the financial burden that may arise due to coronavirus infection.

    2. Baggage cover

Another great benefit of travel insurance is baggage cover. Imagine paying for items that you had already packed in your bags, lost due to someone else's error. In such situations, travel insurance comes into the picture. Here's how:

    • If your luggage is misplaced or stolen, the policy will cover the cost of essentials such as toiletries, medicines, and clothing.

    · In the event of delayed baggage, travel policies usually cover the costs of necessities until your luggage is returned.

    3. Medical cover

Medical coverage in a travel insurance policy has a broad definition. Let's start with the most crucial thing first. If you are travelling outside of India, then your active medical insurance policy will be useless in case you fall sick. Why? Because most health insurance policies cover the cost of medical treatment only if it is taken within the country.

Now let's talk about the situations covered by your travel insurance.

If you meet with an accident or become ill due to a change in weather conditions on your trip abroad, the travel policy will cover the cost of the immediate treatment.

    • Travel insurance also pays for emergency medical evacuation if your medical condition requires long-term therapy and local doctors recommend treatment in your home country.

    · If you become unwell and are admitted to the hospital, the insurer will cover the cost of the compassionate visit. Make sure you check the clauses related to this point with the insurer before purchasing the policy.

  • Is Travel Insurance Compulsory for Traveling Abroad?

    by Almog Ramrajkar | Aug 05, 2022

If you're traveling abroad after the pandemic, it is best not to overlook the need for travel insurance. Some travelers believe that travel insurance is optional, but in fact, almost 34 countries need travelers to purchase travel insurance before entering their territories.

Owning travel insurance on your international trip, avoid difficult situations due to passport loss, flight cancellations, lockdowns, medical emergencies, baggage loss, etc.

Few countries where travel insurance policy is mandatory:

    • Cuba
    • The United States of America (USA)
    • The United Arab of Emirates (UAE)
    • Turkey
    • Russia
    • Qatar
    • Antarctica
    • Ecuador (including Galapagos Islands)
    • Schengen countries (a group of 26 central European countries)

Top benefits of purchasing travel insurance when traveling abroad:

    • Medical Assistance

The health benefit aspect of travel insurance is one of the key reasons it is essential for foreign trips. Medical emergencies are unforeseeable. If you don't plan for it beforehand, you can face financial turmoil. Travel insurance covers hospitalization and pharmacy bills. The policy further helps you if you are diagnosed with COVID-19 while on a trip. Travel insurance also covers prolonged international stays due to unavoidable circumstances.

  • How to Find Travel Insurance For Parents?

    by Almog Ramrajkar | Aug 05, 2022

Given the threat COVID-19 poses for the older age groups, you must take all precautions to safeguard your parents from any unpleasant conditions that could arise on their trip abroad. Here are the things to keep in mind while purchasing international travel insurance for your parent’s trip:

    1. Check the list of coverage

There are various travel insurance products available in the market. Before you purchase travel insurance for your parents, thoroughly check the list of policy inclusions. Most importantly, check the maximum entry age with the insurer. Typically, travel insurance covers the following:

    • Flight and/or hotel reservation cancellation:

If your parents wish to cancel or postpone their planned trip due to a medical condition, travel insurance will compensate for the losses incurred on the flight & hotel reservation.

    • Trip cancellation:

Travel insurance also covers trip cancellation due to the sudden demise of a close family member.

    • Trip extension:

As the world is still battling the COVID-19 pandemic, the possibility of a sudden lockdown at your destination is high. With travel insurance, the insurer assists you with policy extension in case you are stranded at your travel location.

    • Medical coverage including COVID 19:

A travel insurance policy covers the expense of treatment if your father, mother, or both are diagnosed with COVID-19 during their trip abroad.

    2. Check for medical coverage

Most health insurance policies are worthless if your parents fall ill and seek medical care outside India. Therefore, it's crucial to check with the insurer the scope of medical coverage included in the travel insurance. You must also read the policy's fine print to understand if there are any hidden clauses.

  • Does Travel Insurance Cover Illness Due to Covid-19?

    by Almog Ramrajkar | Aug 05, 2022

Yes, travel insurance these days does cover health emergencies due to coronavirus. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, many insurers have started including COVID-19 coverage in their travel insurance policies. If you are wondering what is exactly covered as part of the coronavirus cover, this article is for you. Keep reading.

    1 . Medical treatment

Because of how the virus has spread, one can't avoid the fact that they're always at risk of contracting the disease. The situation gets significantly worse if you develop COVID-19 while travelling abroad. The high cost of healthcare facilities and services worldwide can often be a source of anxiety for many travellers. However, with travel insurance, you need not worry about the COVID-19 treatment costs.

    2. Unexpected lockdowns

Given the current situation, it is too early to say whether or not a lockdown will be implemented in the future. However, consider a case where you'd be left stranded on vacation abroad because the country declared a nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19. Under such circumstances, flight delays or cancellations are significantly risky. A travel insurance policy covers your trip extension and any losses incurred due to flight cancellation.

  • What are the Benefits of Medical Travel Insurance?

    by Almog Ramrajkar | Jun 20, 2022

When travelling abroad, make sure that medical travel insurance is among the first five things on your shopping list. In fact, many countries refuse entry to visitors who do not have it. Medical travel insurance policies come with a host of benefits such as:

    1. Family emergency

There might arise a situation when you have to cancel your trip due to a medical emergency or a death in your family. In this scenario, the travel insurance will compensate for the losses incurred due to trip cancellation.

    2. Repatriation costs

Imagine a situation where you fall sick and need continuous medical attention while on a trip. You may want to cut short your vacation and head home to pursue treatment in your home country, which means additional costs to buy an earlier return ticket. This is where a medical travel policy comes in handy. It covers the expense of repatriation, and the insurer will make the appropriate arrangements to assist you in returning to India.

    3. Replacement to regular medical insurance

Even if you have health insurance with various add-ons, it will be of no use in a foreign country. Your medical plan is valid only in India. However, this is not the case with medical travel insurance. If you fall sick abroad due to changes in climatic conditions or some other reason, the insurer will cover the treatment costs.

  • How travel medical insurance can help you if you fall sick abroad during your trip

    by Almog Ramrajkar | Mar 04, 2022

Travelling is a refreshing experience, especially if you are visiting another country for a vacation. But, just like any change, travelling comes with its own set of inconveniences. A change of climate, food, or travel-related exhaustion can lead to common cough and cold, or you may even fall severely sick or be injured. During such trying times, getting hospitalised or availing of medical treatment in a foreign country can drain you off your funds. As a precaution get yourself travel medical insurance before you set out on your journey. This would help you to meet the healthcare expenses if required so that you can travel stress-free. Note, that travel medical insurance or health insurance for overseas travel differs from regular health insurance. Keep reading to know more about travel medical insurance in detail.

A travel medical insurance would cover the cost of emergency medical treatments or injury as per the limits of your policy. You will find that most of the domestic health insurance policies are not valid abroad, so you have to buy additional travel medical insurance. This insurance would be active only as long as you are travelling. With travel medical insurance, you will get foreign language help if you are not comfortable communicating in the country’s official language. Your insurance provider will facilitate it in case you have any problems related to communication. In certain countries, it is compulsory to show proof of travel medical insurance for entry permits.

Coverage under medical insurance for overseas travel

Travel medical insurance covers emergency medical treatments including:

    • Bone fractures
    • Heart attack
    • Stroke
    • Emergency dental procedures
    • Medical evacuations
    • Emergency transport
    • Emergency repatriation
    • Ambulance service
    • Doctor consultation fees
    • Hospital and operating room charges
    • X-rays, examinations, treatments, lab tests and anaesthesia
    • Drugs and medicines
    • Emergency medical evacuation or arrangements for sending back the patient to the domestic country

There are two types of health insurance for travel abroad

    • Stand-alone plan for health insurance for abroad

It covers emergency medical and dental expenses that you may have to pay for while travelling. It will not include any other expenses related to travel insurance. Travel medical insurance will cover medical emergencies while travelling such as a sprained ankle, fracture, injury etc. while sightseeing. It will not cover non-emergency issues or regular treatment procedures.

    • Comprehensive travel insurance cover

In addition to emergency medical benefits, a comprehensive travel insurance package plan provides coverage for trip cancellation, trip delay, emergency medical evacuation, baggage loss etc.

You can buy travel medical insurance as primary or secondary coverage, depending on your requirements. If it is the primary coverage, it will pay for the expenses irrespective of any other health insurance that you have. If you have existing health insurance and buy travel medical insurance as secondary coverage, you have to claim from the primary health insurance first. You can claim the balance amount from the secondary cover.

If you travel to a country where your domestic or primary health insurance is not valid, then the secondary travel medical insurance will become the primary coverage due to lack of other insurance. Take care to know about the policy rules for evacuation in case of a medical emergency. Some policies may require a minimum period of hospitalisation abroad before you are evacuated.

  • Kabsa: A Taste of Saudi Arabia

    by Almog Ramrajkar | Feb 08, 2022

Everything about a trip to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia spells exotic and generous. And the cuisine of this land is no exception. A blend of wheat, rice, milk, chicken or lamb, dates, yoghurt and potatoes, delicately flavoured with rich aromatic spices, is typically what Saudi food consists of.

The cuisine varies from province to province, although some dishes such as the national dish of Saudi Arabia, are found across the Kingdom.

The warmth, generosity and sense of sharing that are the hallmarks of Saudi Arabian culture are amply reflected in the food of the people here as well. And perhaps the best example of this culture is a dish called Kabsa. Any culinary trail to explore Saudi Arabia’s food culture would be incomplete without a proper mention of Kabsa which is considered as the national dish of the kingdom, and with good reason.

    The Origin of Kabsa

The roots of Kabsa trace back to the Bedouin tribes of the Arabian Peninsula. These nomadic communities created the dish using accessible ingredients: rice, meat (commonly lamb or chicken), and a medley of spices. The term "Kabsa" is derived from the Arabic word 'kbs,' meaning 'press,' alluding to the traditional method of cooking where all components are combined in a single pot.

    The Ingredients of Kabsa

To understand what makes Kabsa so special, let us see what goes into the making of this dish. At its heart, the traditional Kabsa is a simple preparation of wholesome, hearty Saudi food staples of rice and meat, cooked with potatoes and vegetables. All these main ingredients are brought together with the warmth of aromatic Arabian spices such as black pepper, cloves, cardamom, saffron, black lime, bay leaves, and nutmeg. This spice mix is what lends that beautiful distinctive flavour to the dish. One mouthful and you immediately get a feeling of immense satisfaction.

The secret of a really good Kabsa is selecting and using the finest of ingredients from fragrant long-grained basmati rice to the best of spices and the skill of cooking the dish to perfection so as to bring out its perfect rich flavours and texture.
