It covers your hospitalisation expenses for Covid-19 treatment, including hospital room rent, nursing expenses, surgery costs, specialist fees, and more. The sum insured for the Corona Kavach policy ranges from ₹50 thousand to ₹5 lakh, so you can choose the desired amount based on your individual or family needs. If you prefer alternative treatment, you’ll be glad to know; this policy also covers Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) inpatient care treatment for Covid-19.

  • Inpatient hospitalisation

    Hospitalisation expenses (for minimum 24 hours hospitalisation), on a positive diagnosis of Covid-19 in a government authorised diagnostic centre. This includes room rent, boarding and nursing expenses; medical practitioner, consultants and specialist fees; blood, oxygen, ventilator charges; surgical appliances; medicines and drugs; costs towards diagnostics, diagnostic imaging modalities, PPE Kit, gloves and mask.
  • Home care treatment

    Home care for Covid-19, for a maximum period of 14 days per incident, provided a medical practitioner has prescribed home care treatment. This benefit covers doctor consultations, paramedic assistance, regular vital monitoring by nurses, investigations, pharmacy (medicines). Note: If oxygenation is required for Covid-19 treatment, you will have to get admitted at a hospital.
  • ICU costs

    Intensive Care Unit (ICU) / Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU) expenses.
  • Treatment for comorbid conditions

    Cost of treatment for any comorbid condition, along with the treatment for Covid-19.
  • Inpatient AYUSH treatment

    The Covid-19 hospitalisation expenses you incur under AYUSH (as defined in IRDAI Regulations, 2016) systems of medicine, will be covered up to the sum insured without any sub-limits. This is applicable only on positive diagnosis of Covid-19 in a government authorised diagnostic centre.
  • Post-hospitalization

Why do I need a Corona Kavach policy?

This policy protects you from financial worries related to Covid-19, so medical expenses are the least of your worries if you need treatment.

What’s the age limit for Corona Kavach?

You need to be over 18 years old and not more than 65 years old to get insured under Corona Kavach policy.

Can I avail Covid-19 treatment at home under this policy?

Under the Corona Kavach policy, we will cover the costs of Covid-19 treatment taken at home for up to 14 days per incident provided that:

  • A medical practitioner has advised you to undergo treatment at home.
  • You are undergoing a continuous active line of home care treatment and your health status is monitored by a medical practitioner for each day.

What do you mean by sum insured?

The (basic) sum insured is the maximum and total amount that an insurance company is liable to pay you for all the claims made under a policy.

What should my sum insured be?

What is the waiting period for Corona Kavach?

The waiting period for Corona Kavach policy is 15 days. In case of hospitalisation/home care on account of a positive COVID-19 diagnosis, we will cover your medical expenses, provided the illness is contracted after completion of 15 days.

Does Corona Kavach cover Covid-19 diagnostics?

If your positive Covid-19 diagnosis happened within 15 days before the hospitalisation/ home care treatment, then the cost is covered as part of the pre-hospitalisation medical expenses. This is applicable only if your main hospitalisation/home care claim is for a positive Covid-19 case.

Will the expenses towards COVID-19 vaccination be covered in case such vaccine is manufactured?

The expenses towards vaccination or any other preventive treatment are not covered under Corona Kavach.

Will Corona Kavach cover expenses due to quarantine/isolation?

If you are diagnosed as Covid-19 positive, and are requested to stay under home quarantine/isolation on the advice of a medical practitioner, then we cover the medical expenses under the home care benefit as per your policy terms and conditions. However, costs you incur during self-quarantine/self-isolation will not be covered.

Will Corona Kavach cover hospitalisation outside India?

No. The geographical scope of Corona Kavach is limited to India.

Are COVID-19 medical consultations and diagnostic tests covered under Corona Kavach?

In case of an approved claim for Covid-19 related hospitalisation, all COVID-19 expenses you’ve incurred up to 15 days prior to the admission date and 30 days after discharge will be covered as per policy terms and conditions. This will also include consultations with a medical practitioner, diagnostic tests and medicines.

Is overseas treatment for an illness covered?

The expenses for overseas treatments are not covered under Corona Kavach policy.

Are comorbid conditions covered?

Along with the treatment for Covid-19, the policy includes the cost of treatment for any comorbid condition including pre-existing conditions. This is applicable only where the primary admission is for Covid-19 treatment.

We cover AYUSH treatment only when treatment is undertaken in a government hospital or any institute recognised by the government and/or accredited by Quality Council of India/National Accreditation Board of Health. Treatment taken at a healthcare facility which is not a hospital is excluded.

What does basic hospitalisation cover?

It covers the inpatient hospitalisation expenses incurred during hospitalisation for a minimum period of 24 consecutive hours. These include boarding and nursing expenses, intensive care unit charges, doctor’s fee, blood, oxygen, etc.

What expenses are covered under pre and post hospitalisation?

It refers to the medical expenses incurred immediately 15 days before and 30 days after hospitalisation.

What is the procedure for reimbursement settlement?

You need to intimate your claims 48 hours before hospitalisation and within 24 hours of emergency admission.

  • To intimate claim SMS 'HEALTHCLAIM' to 575758 (charge – ₹3 per SMS) or call our toll free number 1800 2666 or e-mail us at ihealthcare@icicilombard.com
  • Send us your duly filled claim form (signed by you as well as your treating doctor) and required documents
  • We will review your claim request (as per policy terms and conditions)
  • On approval, we will settle your claim (as per policy terms and conditions) and reimburse the approved amount

What are the steps for cashless settlement?

It is only available at network hospitals.

Steps involved:

  • Make a pre-authorisation request at least 48 hours before a planned hospitalisation and within 24 hours of emergency hospitalisation.
  • Get admitted in network hospital
  • Fax the pre-authorisation form along with relevant documents (Investigation reports, previous consultation papers if any, Cashless ID, Photo ID)
  • We will review your claim request (as per policy terms and conditions)
  • On approval, we will settle your claim (as per policy terms and conditions) with the hospital after completion of all formalities

 

What is the claims process for homecare treatment?

Before beginning the homecare treatment, please notify us and collect the prior approval letter. We will be able to only process the reimbursement claims for approved home healthcare.

To claim for the expenses of Covid-19 homecare treatment, we request you to submit the below documents, which will help us review your request:

  • Doctor consultation with plan of treatment and suggestion of home healthcare
  • Investigation report from a government authorised diagnostics centre, confirming a positive diagnosis of Covid-19
  • Home care services estimation bill with details from the healthcare provider
  • Payment receipts
  • Course of homecare stay (if maintained)
  • Health Card and ID proof (Aadhaar card/Pan card/Voter ID card/other Government ID proof

Will my travel history abroad affect my claim under Corona Kavach?

What if I want to renew my Corona Kavach insurance policy after expiry?

Currently, there is no renewal option available for Corona Kavach. You can opt for a new policy if your previous policy has expired.
