About Corona Kavach Policy, ICICI Lombard

Corona Kavach Policy is a Covid specific product, addressing your basic health insurance needs during the global pandemic. If you’re worried about the medical expenses of Covid-19, then this policy is a suitable choice. It covers your hospitalization expenses for Covid treatment, including hospital room rent, nursing expenses, surgery costs, specialist fees, and more. The sum insured for the Corona Kavach Policy ranges from ₹50K to 5 lakhs, so you can choose the desired amount based on your individual or family needs. If you prefer alternative treatment, you’ll be glad to know this policy also covers Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) inpatient care treatment for Covid-19.

  • Inpatient hospitalisation

    Covid hospitalisation expenses (for minimum 24 hours hospitalisation), on positive diagnosis of Covid in a government authorized diagnostic centre. This includes room rent, boarding and nursing expenses; surgeon, anesthetist, medical practitioner, consultants and specialist fees; anaesthesia, blood, oxygen, operation theatre charges, surgical appliances, ventilator charges, medicines and drugs, costs towards diagnostics, diagnostic imaging modalities, PPE Kit, gloves, mask and such other similar expenses.
  • Home care treatment

    Home care for Covid-19, for a maximum period up to 14 days per incident, provided a medical practitioner has prescribed home care treatment. This benefit covers Covid diagnostic tests undergone at home or at diagnostics centre, medicines, consultation charges, nursing charges, medical procedures limited to parenteral administration of medicines, and costs of pulse oximeter, oxygen cylinder and nebulizer.
  • ICU costs

    Intensive Care Unit (ICU) / Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU) expenses.
  • Treatment for comorbid conditions

    Cost of treatment for any comorbid condition including pre-existing comorbid condition(s), along with the treatment for Covid.
  • Inpatient AYUSH treatment

    The Medical expenses incurred on hospitalization under AYUSH (as defined in IRDAI (Health Insurance) Regulations, 2016) systems of medicine for the treatment of Covid on Positive diagnosis of Covid in a government authorized diagnostic centre shall be covered up to the Sum Insured without any sub-limits.
  • Floater benefit

    Extending the coverage of your single policy to your family (legally wedded spouse, dependent parents and parents-in-law, dependent children) by paying one premium amount on floater basis. You can get any child above 3 months of age covered under the policy provided one adult is also covered under it.
  • Hospital daily cash cover

    Fixed daily allowance ranging from ₹250 to ₹2500 per day for each 24 hours of continuous hospitalization for Covid treatment, payable maximum up to 15 days during the policy period.
  • Post-hospitalization

    Medical expenses incurred for a period of 30days from the date of discharge from the hospital/completion of home care treatment, following an admissible claim under this policy.
  • Pre-hospitalisation

    Medical expenses incurred for a period of 15days prior to the date of hospitalisation/home care treatment following an admissible claim under this policy. This also covers the costs of diagnostics towards Covid.

Why do I need Corona Kavach policy?

This policy protects you from financial worries related to the positive diagnosis and treatment of Covid-19. It also covers your family under the floater benefit, so medical expenses are the least of your worries if your dependants need treatment.

What’s the age limit for Corona Kavach?

You need to be over 18 years old and not more than 65 years old to get insured under Corona Kavach policy. Your dependent child/children will be covered from day 1 of age to 25 years.

Can I avail Covid-19 treatment at home under this policy?

Under Corona Kavach policy, we will cover the costs of Covid-19 treatment taken at home maximum up to 14 days per incident provided that:

  • A medical practitioner has advised you to undergo treatment at home.
  • There is a continuous active line of treatment with monitoring of the health status by a medical practitioner for each day through the duration of the home care treatment.
  • Daily monitoring chart including records of treatment administered duly signed by the treating doctor is maintained.
What do you mean by annual sum insured?

The annual (basic) sum insured is the maximum and total amount that an insurance company is liable to pay you for all the claims made under a policy.

What should my sum insured be?

You can choose your sum insured depending on your current age, health conditions, number of family members covered, family medical history and ability to pay the premium. You can consider these and then decide your sum insured amount, or you can call us on 18002666 for assistance.

The expenses towards vaccination or any other preventice treatment are not covered under Corona Kavach.

Are the expenses on medicines and diagnostic tests incurred during medically advised home isolation due to COVID-19 covered?

No, Corona Kavach does not cover these expenses.

Will Corona Kavach cover expenses due to quarantine?

In case the quarantine is in a hospital or home on the advice of a Medical Practitioner, then the medical expenses incurred will be covered in accordance with the policy terms and conditions. However, expenses incurred on account of self-quarantine will not be covered.

Will Corona Kavach cover hospitalisation in a country other than India?

No. The geographical scope of Corona Kavach is limited to India.

Are the consultations with a Medical Practitioner and diagnostic tests in relation to COVID-19 covered under my Corona Kavach?

Further, in case there is hospitalisation on account of COVID-19 and the same has been paid under the policy, then all expenses related to COVID-19 incurred for consultations with a Medical Practitioner and diagnostic tests as advised by a Medical Practitioner in the 15 day period prior to the date of admission and 30 day period after date of discharge will be covered as per policy terms and conditions.

Whom can I include in my policy under floater cover?

Under your Corona Kavach policy, you can include yourself, your legally wedded spouse, parents, parents-in-law and dependent children (natural or legally adopted).

Is overseas treatment for an illness covered?

The expenses for overseas treatments are not covered under Corona Kavach policy.

Are comorbid conditions covered?

The policy includes the cost of treatment for any comorbid condition including pre-existing comorbid condition(s) along with the treatment for Covid.

How do I know if Corona Kavach covers an institute for AYUSH treatment?

AYUSH treatment will be covered by ICICI Lombard only when treatment is undertaken in a government hospital or any institute recognised by the government and or accredited by Quality Council of India/National Accreditation Board of Health. Treatment taken at a healthcare facility which is not a hospital is excluded.

What does Basic Hospitalisation cover?

It covers the inpatient hospitalisation expenses incurred during hospitalisation for a minimum period of 24 consecutive hours. These include boarding and nursing expenses, intensive care unit charges, surgeon’s/doctor’s fee, anaesthesia, blood, oxygen, operation theatre charges etc.

What expenses are covered under Pre and Post Hospitalisation?

It refers to the payment of medical expenses incurred immediately 15 days before and 30 days after hospitalisation.

Is there a specific geographical jurisdiction for receiving treatment?

You can avail treatment anywhere in India to claim benefits under this product.

What are the expenses incurred for COVID-19 that will not be covered under my Corona Kavach?

The non-payable expenses as listed by IRDAI will not be covered under your Corona Kavach.

What do I do if my claim is rejected?

If your claim is rejected, you can ask the reason for such rejection. If you’re not convinced, you can contest the decision. A claim can be rejected for several reasons like an incomplete waiting period, incorrect information provided and delay in making a claim.

What is the procedure for reimbursement settlement?

  • Fax the pre-authorisation form along with relevant documents (Investigation reports, previous consultation papers if any, Cashless ID, Photo ID)
  • We will review your claim request (as per policy terms and conditions)
  • On approval, we will settle your claim (as per policy terms and conditions) with the hospital after completion of all formalities
