Be insured for unforeseen experiences

Republic of Korea, also fondly known as South Korea is an East Asian nation on the southern half of Korean Peninsula. It shares its one of the world's most heavily militarized borders with North Korea. Despite the devastation caused by the Korean War, Korea offers a myriad variety of historic structures to explore.

World Heritage listed - Suwon Hwaseong Fortress

The province of Suwon houses the Hwaseong Fortress, which was built as the symbol of king's filial piety towards his father Jangheonseja. The structure of the fortress is described as a great architectural blend of eastern and western styles. It was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1997.

The fortress wall is a great defense for the city of Suwon and has protected it during turbulent times. The wall has strategic openings for guns, arrows and spears to attack invaders. Four gates, facing each cardinal direction, open the fortress walls to outsiders.

There are seven-arch style samun gates where nearby stream reaches the place. A pavilion called Hwahongmun stands above the gates. The highest peak of the wall will give you a 360° view of the entire Suwon city.

Island of Ganghwado

Ganghwado is an island located in an estuary of the Han River, on the west coast of South Korea. It is the fifth largest island of South Korea and has an important strategic location from the defense viewpoint. The island has withstood various attacks in the 19th century, when the French, American and Japanese forces tried to invade the 'hermit kingdom'.

Inhabited since prehistoric times, it houses preserved ancient artifacts like Goindol Rocks. These rocks are graves where the Bronze Age people buried their rulers. This island houses many such graves, also known as dolmens, which are included in UNESCO's heritage list.

Jongmyo Royal Shrine

Jongmyo is a Confucian shrine dedicated to the forefathers of Joseon dynasty (1392-1910). It is home to the longest traditional wooden building in Korea and has its place in the World Heritage site list too.

The shrine was built in the 16th century and houses tablets that bear the teachings of the former royal family. Traditional ritual ceremonies dating back to the 14th century, which link music with song and dance, are still observed there.

Unspoken History

Since the ties between North Korea and South Korea have not been as hospitable since the ceasefire, it is advisable to be updated with the current political situation before you plan a trip to Korea. Also, knowing the nearest embassy should help if any unpleasant situation arises.

Unless you are staying in an urban area, it is difficult to find food that isn't Asian-inspired or Korean. Exotic and foreign food options are hard to find outside the city and have a disappointing quality which might lead to health problems.

In situations like these, being insured comes handy. Comprehensive travel insurance covers all your medical ailments that may arise during the trip. It provides cashless hospitalization facility, in case of an emergency.

Also, in case you lose your passport, a duplicate can be applied or arrangements can be made to get you back to your country with as less formalities as legally possible. To know more as to how a Travel Insurance can be helpful, Click Here
