Cruise control refers to a system in cars that is responsible for setting the speed limit without the driver's interference. It controls the speed of the car automatically without letting the car cross the speed limit. Cruise control basically gives the input to control the speed of the vehicle instead of the driver performing the same function with the help of an accelerator.

In this blog, we will look into what is cruise control in cars in India how it works, and related aspects.

How Does the Cruise Control System Work?

Let us breakdown what is cruise control in cars in India and how do they work.

These days the entire speed function of the car is controlled by an automated system using a computer. It is put into operation when you drive at a constant speed. It is an electric system that sets the car on a specific limit and allows the driver to take the foot off the accelerator pedal. The system now interacts with the throttle cable with the help of various sensors that are connected to a computer known as Electronic Unit Control (ECU). So, when you drive at a constant speed the ECU calculates the speed and sets the throttle position on the speed which allows the throttle to function wirelessly.

The cruise control is known to make driving easy and convenient. The advantages include-

  • Reducing foot fatigue and stress in case of long drives
  • Improving fuel economy
  • Helps to keep the speed limit in control
  • Increase and decrease the speed of the vehicle by simply clicking on a button
  • Works wonders in the case of automated cars

The disadvantages include-

  • It cannot be used at night
  • It can induce drowsiness by decreasing your alertness as the car is functioning without much driver interference
  • It cannot be put to use much on Indian roads as they are suitable for driving on Highways and GT roads.
  • It does not work well in the case of manual cars because the driver is required to change the gears when required.
