Maharashtra Relaxes Covid-19 Restrictions on April 2022

After two years since the imposition of Covid-19 restrictions in Mumbai and Maharashtra, the Maharashtra government withdrew all Covid-19 curbs on 1st April 2022. The decision was made following a sharp decline in cases during a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on 31^st March 2022.

Covid-19 in Maharashtra took a significant toll on life, as the state was one of the worst hits during the pandemic. Cases were significantly high during the first, second and third wave of the pandemic. 

However, things have changed over the past few months with concentrated efforts from the authorities and front-line workers. Hence, the Maharashtra Government decided to withdraw all the Covid-19 restrictions imposed under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

Covid-19 Guidelines in Maharashtra

The state government has now made wearing masks voluntary. Additionally, from now, there are no restrictions on public movement, political and social gatherings, weddings, funerals, visit to shopping malls, cinemas, and travelling by trains and buses, among others.

Note that earlier, the government-imposed fines for not wearing masks and the number of attendees in social and religious gatherings was also numbered.

While Covid-19 restrictions in Maharashtra have been withdrawn, the Government has advised people and establishments to adopt appropriate Covid-19 behaviour to ensure the safety of citizens and society at large. Even experts have advised not to let the guard down and maintain proper Covid-19 norms, including social distancing and physical hygiene.

While Covid-19 cases have dipped considerably, the pandemic has not been eradicated completely. Hence, it’s crucial to remain vigilant to prevent a fourth Covid-19 wave.
