Wondering how to download income tax return acknowledgement? Before answering it, let us define what income tax return acknowledgement is.

The Income Tax Department of India sends this as proof of filing the income tax return to the taxpayer's registered email address. The income tax filing process concludes once you confirm receiving the ITR acknowledgement document.

We will explain the steps to download ITR acknowledgement in the following passage.

Steps to Download Income Tax Return Acknowledgement

  • Taxpayers can automatically download income tax return acknowledgement from the e-filing website of the income tax department. The ITR-V (verification) copy should be duly signed in ''blue ink'' and submitted to the Income Tax Department.
  • You can generate and forward income tax return acknowledgement to the Income Tax Department. If you have yet to receive an acknowledgement, the assessee can download it from the Income Tax E-filing Portal by visiting its web address and following the steps mentioned below.

Step 1: Visit the Income Tax E-filing website, log in with valid credentials, and click on the Forms/Returns link

Step 2: Select ''Income Tax Return'' and ''Assessment Year” options and click ''Submit''

Step 3: Select and click on the mentioned acknowledgement number of the ITR and download ITR-V

With these simple steps, you now know how to download the acknowledgement of your income tax return.

  • While downloading income tax return acknowledgement for sending it to CPC, taxpayers must follow specific points, such as the document should be printed in dark blank ink, the original signature in blue ink, the barcode and signature should be visible, do not use a stapler on the downloaded form, enclose the ITR acknowledgement in an A-4 size white envelope, and more.

People with taxable income should file their ITR for FY 2023-24 by 31st July 2024. Beyond the due date, people will have to pay a late fee. For late filers or missed filing, 31st December 2024 is the last date for ITR filing.

You can check your acknowledgement number from the ITR-V you received in your registered email after e-filing your return. Your ITR-V is also downloadable from the e-Filing portal after login: e-File > Income Tax Returns > View Filed Returns > Download Receipt option.

Ways to e-verify income tax return

Here are some of the methods through which you can electronically verify your income tax return:

ITR Verification via Aadhaar-based OTP

  1. Visit the portal at https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/.
  2. Click on “e- Verify Return” option.
  3. On the page, enter your PAN number, assessment year, acknowledgement number and mobile number. Then click “Continue”.
  4. You will be asked to choose a verification method. Select the mobile OTP option, and you will receive an OTP on your mobile.
  5. Enter the OTP on the page and choose the “Continue” option.
  6. Your ITR e-verification is done.

ITR Verification via Netbanking

  1. Visit the portal at https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/login. Click on “Income Tax Returns” in the “e-file” tab. Click on the “e-Verify ITR” option.
  2. Click on the option “Through net banking” and choose the “Continue” option.
  3. Select the bank of your choice and proceed to continue.
  4. A disclaimer will pop up on the screen. Acknowledge and choose the “Continue” option.
  5. Your net banking page will open, and you must log in with your credentials here.
  6. Choose the “e-verify your return” option from the net banking portal.
  7. The ITR filing page will now be displayed. Choose the ITR form you want from here, and click on “e-verify” option.
  8. Your ITR e-verification is done.

ITR Verification via Bank Account

  1. Visit the portal at https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/login. Click on “Income Tax Returns” in the “e-file” tab. Click on the “e-Verify ITR” option.
  2. Click on the option "Through Bank Account” and choose the “Continue” option.
  3. You will receive an electronic verification code (EVC) on the mobile number and email address registered with your bank account.
  4. Enter the EVC on the page, and choose the “e-verify” option.
  5. Your ITR e-verification is done.

ITR Verification via Demat Account

  1. Visit the portal at https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/login. Click on “Income Tax Returns” in the “e-file” tab. Click on the “e-Verify ITR” option.
  2. Click on the option "Through Demat Account” and choose the “Continue” option.
  3. You will receive an electronic verification code (EVC) on the mobile number and email address you registered with your demat account.
  4. Enter the EVC on the page, and choose the “e-verify” option.
  5. Your ITR e-verification is done.

ITR Verification via Bank ATM

This has to be done offline. You have to physically visit the Bank ATM closest to you.

  1. Swipe your debit card at the ATM.
  2. Enter the PIN like you usually do while withdrawing cash.
  3. Now click on “Generate EVC for Income Tax Filing.”
  4. The code will be sent to the mobile number and email ID that you have registered with ITR filing.
  5. Visit the portal at https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/login. Click on “Income Tax Returns” in the “e-file” tab. Click on the “e-Verify ITR” option.
  6. Click on “I already have an Electronic Verification Code” and choose “Continue”.
  7. Enter the EVC you have received on your registered mobile number and email ID, and proceed to verify.
  8. Your ITR e-Verification is done.
