Spina Bifida is a genetic disease. It happens when a developing baby is in the womb, and the spinal cord fails to develop or close properly. It is commonly known as a split spine.

What are the symptoms of Spina Bifida Disease?

This is one of the most common central nervous system birth effect in India. Spina Bifida clinical features can be observed in various forms. It has a spinal cord and spinal nerves exposed through the opening in the back.

Some of the common symptoms of Spina Bifida are as follows:

  • Bladder and bowel issues (incontinence)
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Weakness and sensation loss underneath the defect
  • Inability to move the lower legs or paralysis and other cognitive impairments
  • Orthopaedic malformations like clubfoot or problems of the knees or hips
