What are the Different Types of RTO Forms?

No single RTO form covers all the aspects of vehicular operations. The RTO Ernakulam issues several forms, each with a defined purpose and under authorisation from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

Vehicle Registration Process in Ernakulam

How do you register a vehicle in Ernakulam? Follow these instructions to know:

  • You must submit a demand draft for the payment of road tax

  • Get a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the state where the car was first registered. Obtain an NOC from the financier if the car was bought through financing.
  • Ensure you secure the vehicle insurance certificate and that your Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate is valid. Deposit the necessary fees and road taxes to satisfy all financial obligations about the transfer.
  • Confirm the sale and purchase information to complete the vehicle's registration under the new ownership. Submit all the required paperwork. 

Is it Compulsory to Register Your Vehicle With the RTO?

Yes, this is a mandatory requirement. You are bound by law to register your vehicle with the RTO of the jurisdiction where you live, in this case, Ernakulam. You must also carry a digital or physical copy of your vehicle Registration Certificate (RC) while driving. Failure to comply may result in the traffic police seizing your vehicle. According to the Motor Vehicles Act, a fine of INR 5,000 is applicable for the first offence, and for subsequent offences, the fine can increase to INR 10,000.
