  • Heat treatment (optional): Cut gears may undergo heat treatment to enhance toughness and wear resistance. This involves quenching (rapid cooling after heating) followed by tempering to reduce brittleness.
  • Finishing: The next step is finishing. Gears are refined through grinding, honing or lapping to ensure a smooth surface and precise fit with other gear components. Grinding provides high precision and smooth finishes, honing removes small irregularities and smooths the surface of the gears and lapping further refines the surface to improve the fit and finish.
  • Inspection and quality control: The final step involves thoroughly inspecting the gears for accuracy in dimensions, tooth profile and overall geometry. Advanced measuring tools and techniques ensure that each gear meets the strict standards required for performance and reliability before assembling them into the gearbox.
