In August 2021, the Indian government introduced the Bharat Series Registration Number, commonly called the BH number plate series, specifically for non-transport vehicles. The BH number plate series eliminates the need for a registration transfer when a vehicle moves to a different state.
BH Number Plate Format
The initial three characters of the BH series registration number follow a specific format. XX, a four-digit number, represents two alphabets (excluding I and O), indicating the vehicle category. Additionally, YY signifies the Year of Registration. An example of the format is ‘22BH 9999AA.’
Pros of the BH Registration Number Plates:
- Simplified vehicle registration process.
- Nationwide validity without additional permits or re-registration.
- Cost savings from eliminating re-registration fees.
