Do the things mentioned here and enjoy your car for longer

After a home, a car is the second most important purchase any individual makes. The car is not just a status symbol but a convenient way of getting from Point A to Point B. Nowadays, cars are built using advanced materials and state-of-the-art techniques, that ensure they remain i working condition for longer.

But, with a little bit more care and attention, it is quite probable to even double or triple your car’s lifespan. Here is what you can do to get the most out of your investment.

Regular Maintenance

Proper, periodic maintenance is the key to the health of your car. A car that is not well maintained will find it hard to cross even 1,00,000 kms. If the maintenance schedule is followed according to what is given in the owner’s manual, then your car can easily cross the 1-lakh kilometre mark without any issues.

From this milestone onwards, servicing of the car should be done depending on how much it is used. Consultation with a trusted mechanic to fix a maintenance schedule for your car can pay rich dividends.

Don’t Drive For Short Distances

Driving to places that can be reached either by walking or cycling is not considered good for your health, or the health of your car. If you wish to keep the original parts running for longer, don’t take the car out for short trips.

Going for short trips doesn’t allow your car the time to reach operating temperature. Water is formed as a by-product of the combustion process, and some of it gets into the engine oil and exhaust. Longer running of the engine ensures that this water boils off and doesn’t mix with unburnt fuel to form a nasty sludge. Experts believe anything less than 8 kms to be a short distance.

Prefer Synthetic Oil

Synthetic oils are costlier than their non-synthetic counterparts. But mostly everyone in the automotive world know that they are the better option. High-performance engines, and those which are turbocharged and supercharged should get synthetic oil. This is because, synthetic oil are better suited to tackling the high thermal stress these engines are put under.

Clean Your Car

Just as oils and periodic maintenance are crucial for keeping the internals functioning smoothly, regular car wash is required to keep the exterior of the car looking mint. Giving your car a thorough wash will keep the road salts, dust particles and other pollutants off your car’s paint. This means that the paint will keep its lustre and shine for longer.

Just like periodic maintenance, car insurance policies also take additional expenses away by taking care of any bills arising from an unfortunate accident.
