Environment-Friendly Cars in India

Hybrid cars are known to be more eco-friendly than conventional cars. Here are some of the best picks from those sold in India

The automotive industry is well aware of its contribution towards pollution of the planet and is working on new technologies, which includes electrification, to reduce it. New electric cars are being shown and introduced by the manufacturer, but due to lack of charging infrastructure in most parts of the world, the full adoption of these automobiles are still some time away.

Hybrid cars though, are more practical as they combine the power of electric motor with the convenience associated with the conventional automobile. Here, we bring you some of the best models on offer in India.

Honda Accord Hybrid

The Honda Accord is in its ninth generation in India, having started its Indian journey in 2001. The exterior does not differ much from the outgoing model, but the interior gets a new dashboard with touchscreen infotainment system, with GPS navigation and Apple Car Play and Android Auto compatibility.

Power comes from a 2.0-litre four cylinder petrol engine that works in tandem with an electric motor, the engine output is 190bhp and 306Nm of torque. All that power is sent to the front wheels through a CVT automatic transmission. It retails at ₹43,43,862 (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

Toyota Camry Hybrid

Another Japanese automaker features in this list. Toyota’s Camry is one of the best-selling products for the company worldwide. The latest Camry Hybrid is a facelift and features premium styling with an updated front fascia and heavier use of chrome elements overall.

The interior features the same layout with additional goodies such as wireless smartphone charger, wood finish armrests, power recline rear seat and three zone automatic climate control. Propulsion is provided by a four cylinder petrol engine pushing out 157.8bhp and 213Nm of torque. This is paired with an electric motor that gives another 270Nm of torque.

Price for the Camry Hybrid is ₹37,97,000 (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

The Ciaz holds the distinction of being the first Maruti car to come equipped with the mild hybrid technology that the company calls SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle from Suzuki). The Ciaz Hybrid is only offered with the diesel variant. The hybrid tech betters fuel mileage figures and features brake energy recuperation to charge the battery.

Power figures for the Ciaz are 89bhp and 200Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. Price starts at ₹9,67,493 (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

These cars play their part in reducing air pollution. When opting to buy these cars, always secure them with comprehensive car insurance as it protects you from additional expense arising from an unfortunate accident or other calamities.
