The validity of a Belgian Schengen visa
As per the Schengen Zone rules, you can get a short-stay visa for any country in the territory for a maximum of three months, with a validity period of 6 months. However, if you have a single-entry visa and leave without completing your quota of three months, you cannot come back. In the case of a double entry visa, you can use up your quota of three months in two visits, but if you have a multiple entry visa, you can enter and exit Belgium as many times as you wish within the validity period of your visa. However, once the validity of your Schengen visa has expired, you will not be allowed to stay in Belgium unless you get your visa extended, which is hard, but not impossible. In exceptional cases when you can convince the Belgian authorities that you need to stay in Belgium, for medical reasons.
How long can you stay in Belgium without a visa?
Citizens of a country which is not a part of the Schengen visa exempt countries are not allowed to enter or stay in Belgium, or for that matter in any other Schengen country without a visa. However, nationals of a visa-exempt country can remain in Belgium for 90 days, but within a 180-day validity. The time that you spend in any other country in the Schengen zone is also counted in this validity period.
Can the Belgian visa be revoked?
This is a distinct possibility if the conditions set while issuing the visa are violated at any time in any way by the visa holder. A failure to provide the border officer with the relevant entry requirements does not cause automatic revocation of the Belgium visa, but further complications could lead to that.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here is a list of commonly asked questions while applying for visa.
Is it compulsory for me to get a Belgium Visa to travel to Belgium?
Yes, Indian citizens are required to have Belgium visa for entering Belgium premises. You need to take a Schengen visa if you need to visit there. For that, you need to collect all the documents and apply for the visa by taking an appointment with the Belgium embassy. After that, you will be eligible to visit it for 90 days. If you wish to stay for more days, then you need to apply for a National visa of their country. You cannot stay more than 90 days with a Schengen visa.
How can I apply for a Belgium Visa?
You are required to visit the Belgium consulates situated in your state or across India. You can even apply for Belgium Visa online by sitting at your place. If you are applying it for the first time, then you need to go and visit the consulate in person to handle the documents, but if you have applied for it before, then you need to send it via email. Just make sure you have all the required documents which are needed for the application.
What should be mentioned in the cover letter to be submitted with my documents?
Your purpose of visiting Belgium should be mentioned along with all the information regarding your visit like stay, transportation details, etc. Mainly your time duration needs to be mentioned correctly because based on that you will be granted the visa. If there is any change in the duration of the stay, then you cannot request changes once you get the visa in hand.
What are the payment methods for Visa fees?
Till now there is only one place in India where you can pay your visa application fee through bank draft, and that is Kolkata. At every other embassy, you need to make all the required payments in cash.
If my application is rejected, what should I do?
The embassy sends the application further to the Belgium consulate, and they start the verification process from their end. If they found any illegal or unreasonable thing while verifying, they can reject the visa at once and are not liable to provide any reason for the same. Their decision has to be accepted.
You can apply for the visa again after a gap of six months, but there is no guarantee that your visa will be approved by the Belgium consulate this time.
Should I buy travel insurance?
Getting a travel insurance during a trip to abroad is always recommendable. Travel insurance allows you to enjoy your travel experience rather than stressing over things that can go wrong. Moreover, it allows you an easy way to deal with emergencies that may arise during your travel.
