What are the Different Types of RTO Forms?

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways offers various RTO forms online:

  • Form 20: Used for motor vehicle registration
  • Form 21: Related to the sales certificate
  • Form 23: For issuing the registration certificate
  • Form 24: Used for the registration of a motor vehicle
  • Form 29: For the transfer of ownership of a motor vehicle
  • Form 38 A: Used for generating an inspection report
  • Form 50: Related to a bill of lading
  • Form 51: Concerned with the certificate of insurance
  • Form 54: Used for submitting information regarding an accident


Vehicle Registration Process in Ranchi

Follow these steps to register your vehicle in Ranchi:

  1. You must visit your local RTO office and provide the documents with duly filled forms.
  2. Submit the road tax via demand draft. 
  3. Remember to fill out the registration form as directed by the RTO office.
  4. Pay the applicable processing fees.
  5. After processing and verifying, the RTO will allocate a unique registration number for your vehicle.
  6. Typically, the process concludes within 2-3 days, though it may take longer in some cases.

If you want to transfer the ownership of a registered vehicle in Ranchi:

  1. Begin by filling out Forms 29 and 30.
  2. Obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the state where the vehicle was registered.
  3. Remember to get an NOC from the financer if the vehicle was procured through financing by the former owner.

Make sure you obtain the Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate and valid insurance for the vehicle. Once you finish, pay the required fees and road taxes. Is it Compulsory to Register Your Vehicle With the RTO?

In India, registering your vehicle with the RTO is mandatory. Each vehicle must be registered with the nearest RTO office.

You are assigned a temporary registration number that is valid for a month when you purchase a car. You are required to obtain a permanent registration number from the RTO within this period. Once assigned, the permanent number remains unchanged throughout the vehicle's lifetime.
