Airborne diseases arise from viruses, bacteria, fungal spores, and dust. Examples include the flu, tuberculosis, and aspergillosis, spreading via air and pollutants.

There can be many reasons for airborne diseases. Some major airborne disease causes are the spread of the infection from one person to another by viruses, protozoa, bacteria etc.

Causes of Airborne Diseases

Airborne diseases can spread due to many reasons. These are:

  1. One of the major factors is viruses which spread diseases. For example, coronavirus is an airborne disease caused by a virus. Other viral infections are common colds, flu, chicken pox, etc.
  2. Many other diseases are airborne and spread by bacteria. Tuberculosis and whooping cough are major examples.
  3. Fungal spores are another reason for the spread of the disease. When these spores pass through the nasal tract, they become a source of infection. An example is aspergillosis.
  4. Toxoplasmosis and cyst infection from the soil are spread by parasites. These diseases are rare. However, their presence cannot be ruled out.
  5. The presence of dust and pollutants can be another reason for airborne diseases.
