GOQii survey revealed that demands of health insurance is increasing among the Indians

According to a survey conducted by a preventive healthcare company, GOQii, over 70% of the Indian population don’t mind sharing their health data with insurance companies if it helps them fetch better discounts on health insurance premiums. The study also found that the demand for health insurance is increasing in the country on account of rising lifestyle ailments and growing healthcare cost.

The survey was conducted over a year and feedback from over 7 lakh respondents were recorded to draw observations. The findings of the study were published in the GOQii India Fit Report of 2019. It stated that close to 63% Indians believe that having a health insurance policy is an absolute necessity and approximately 85% people feel that one should buy health insurance before the age of 30.

However, despite increasing awareness, more than 20% of the respondents said that they do not have a health insurance plan for themselves or their family members. The primary reason that discourage people from buying it is that they find it too confusing to understand. The high cost of health insurance also deters them from buying it.

According to reports, the overall trust of the people in the healthcare system has deteriorated with more than 96% people not trusting the system. It also revealed that cases of lifestyle diseases are increasing rapidly among Indians, with cholesterol problems rising to 14.1% from 10.1% and high blood pressure cases up to 12% from 9% last year. Stress and obesity are two other major concerns among the citizens, especially in the metros.
