As vehicle registration systems evolve, introducing the BH number plate has sparked curiosity about its associated costs. The question, ‘What is the price for a BH number plate?’ beckons exploration into the financial aspects of acquiring this distinct identification, shedding light on the considerations and expenses involved. In this blog, we will introduce you to the BH number plate, its features, and the cost involved in getting a BH number plate for your vehicle.

What is a BH number plate?

Introduced in 2021, a BH number plate, or Bharat number plate, is a vehicle registration plate issued by the Indian government for non-transport vehicles. The following category of vehicle owners are eligible for this registration plate:

  • Government employees: Individuals employed by the central or state government.
  • Defence personnel: Members of the armed forces.
  • Private sector employees: Those working in private firms with offices in four or more states or union territories.

With the BH number plate, these people can avoid the complex process of registering and re-registering every time they move from one state to another.

Features of BH series number plates

The BH series number plates offer several benefits:

  • Nationwide validity: Vehicles with BH number plates can operate across India without requiring re-registration in new states.
  • Simplified taxation: Road tax is paid in installments of two years or multiples thereof, up to 14 years. After this period, the tax is paid annually.
  • Standardised format: The number plate follows a uniform format, ensuring consistency across all states.

BH number plate format

The BH number plate follows a specific alphanumeric format:

  • YY BH #### XX

Where:

  • YY: Last two digits of the registration year.
  • BH: Denotes the Bharat series.
  • ####: A random four-digit number.
  • XX: Two alphabets serving as a unique identifier.

For example, a BH series number plate might read as '24 BH 1234 AB,' indicating a vehicle registered in the year 2024.

What is the cost of a BH number plate?

The cost of BH series registration for a vehicle is segmented into three distinct price categories, contingent upon the type of the vehicle:

  1. For cars priced under 10 lakhs, the applicant is required to pay 8% of the entire cost of the vehicle.
  2. Subsequently, a fee of 10% of the purchase price is mandatory for cars within the price range of 10 to 20 lakhs.
  3. Lastly, a fee of 12% of the total cost is assessed for cars exceeding 20 lakhs.

It’s important to highlight that electric vehicles qualify for a 2% tax deduction, while diesel vehicles face an extra 2% penalty. Additionally, road tax is obligatory for two years or multiples for private vehicles with the BH number plate.

Conclusion

Exploring BH number plate prices underscores the financial considerations for vehicle owners. As they seek this unique identification, weighing the costs against potential risks becomes pivotal. Considering the unpredictable nature of road incidents, getting car insurance online will add value to investments like a BH number plate and will prove to be a prudent strategy for safeguarding the vehicle and its owner.
