A car bumper is a protective structure of a car that is invaluable in the event of an accident. It acts as a cushioning device to minimise damage impact. Continue reading to find out about the different parts of a car bumper.

Parts of a car bumper

All parts of a front bumper are essential in absorbing shock from accidents and reducing damage to the vehicle. They are as follows:

  • Bumper cover

The bumper cover is the visible outer cover of a bumper. It is usually constructed out of durable plastic or fibreglass and is designed to elevate the vehicle’s aesthetic. It also plays a role in decreasing the aerodynamic drag force. Bumper covers are available in various customisations to complement the overall look of the car.

  • Energy absorber

This part of the bumper is usually crafted out of plastic or foam. This component plays a critical role and is usually placed between the cover and the beam. The energy absorber compresses under pressure to reduce the force transmitted to the car and passengers during collisions.

  • Bumper beam or reinforcement bar

This crucial component of the car bumper offers structural support to the bumper. Usually made of steel or aluminium, this distributes the force of the impact over a larger area.

  • Mounting brackets

Metallic bumper brackets secure the bumper set-up to the car frame. This bracket provides structural integrity and alignment. Bumper bracket designs vary depending on the vehicle model and manufacturer.

Conclusion

All of the parts of a car bumper work together to protect you in the unfortunate event of an accident. To reduce the financial burden of a car collision, it is recommended to get a car insurance policy that includes coverage for bumper damage.
