How Long Does it Take to Obtain a Learner’s Licence in India?

You are issued a learner licence when you are at the learning stage of driving. It is issued to the applicant on the same day. After you have learned to drive and are 18 years and above of age, you can apply for a permanent licence, 30 days after receiving the learner’s licence.

A driving licence is a legal document given by the Indian government to all those individuals who have qualified for the driving test to obtain the same. Driving without an authorised licence is a punishable offence under the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988.

You have to apply at your nearest Regional Transport Authority or Office (RTA/RTO). Once you have passed the eligibility test to drive then you become eligible for obtaining a permanent driving licence.

 Conclusion

A learner licence is the first step to gaining a permanent licence. You can apply for a permanent licence after a month and within 6 months of getting your learner’s licence. Getting a permanent driving licence means you will be on the road more frequently. Thus, getting a car insurance policy soon after is also recommended, which ensures safety for the vehicle and the owner.
