There are several common misconceptions and concerns about the laws about to EVs and DLs. This brings us to one such question, "Do we need a license for electric cars? The fact is that in India, you cannot operate an electric four-wheeler without a valid driving license. Here are some basic guidelines for using an electric vehicle:

  • A driving license is mandatory to drive electric four-wheelers.
  • These scooters are simply considered upgraded forms of bicycles and cannot cause a mishap on the road. However, for all other electric vehicles, you will require a valid driving license before you hit the road.
  • If you meet with an accident while driving your EV without a valid DL, your insurer will deny your claim when you raise one to claim on your car insurance
