Due to non-compliance concerns, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has instructed Paytm Payments Bank (PPBL) to discontinue issuing new FASTags and pause its operations. As a result, users must deactivate Paytm FASTag accounts and acquire new ones from the 32 authorised banks listed on NHAI's (National Highway Authority of India) website.

This shift is crucial for frequent travellers who rely on FASTags for cashless toll payments. If you're a Paytm FASTag user and want to know how to close Paytm FASTag account, this blog will walk you through the process step-by-step.

Steps on how to deactivate a Paytm FASTag

Here's the step-by-step Paytm FASTag deactivation process:

1.     Through the Paytm app

  • Open the Paytm application on your smartphone and log in to your Paytm account.
  • Enter 'FASTag' on the search bar and choose 'Manage FASTags' from the options provided
  • Click on 'Help' at the top right corner of the taskbar.
  • Select 'Need help with on-order related queries?'.
  • Click on 'Chat with us' and select your language.
  • Choose 'Queries related to updating the FASTag profile' from the drop-down menu.
  • Select 'I want to close my FASTag'. Provide the necessary details, such as your account number and the reason for deactivation.

2.     By contacting customer support

  • Call Paytm's customer care number, 1800-120-4210.
  • Verify your identity by providing necessary KYC details, such as vehicle registration number and FASTag ID.
  • Request the executive to close your Paytm FASTag account.
  • Follow the instructions provided by the representative.
  • Note down the ticket number or reference ID for future correspondence.

3.    Through Email

  • Send an email to help@paytm.com.
  • Mention ‘FASTag Deactivation Request’ in the subject line.
  • Include your registered mobile number, vehicle registration number and FASTag ID.
  • State your request to close Paytm FASTag.
  • Wait for a confirmation email acknowledging your request.

Conclusion

Before closing your account, ensure that your FASTag balance is utilised or request a refund of the remaining amount. Once you have deactivated your account, remove the Paytm FASTag from your vehicle to avoid confusion at toll plazas and get a new one from an authorised bank.

In addition to a valid FASTag, a third-party car insurance policy is mandatory in India. Opting for comprehensive car insurance not only fulfils RBI's regulatory requirements but also offers extensive coverage against natural calamities, theft, accidents and third-party liabilities.
