There are currently 23 major banks that issue FASTags, which facilitate the collection of tolls. Read further to know how to get how to get fastag online in easy steps.

Steps to get a FASTag online

FASTag was created in 2014 between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, and since December 2017, all new vehicles sold in India must have a FASTag.

As of 2020, all 615 NHAI toll plazas and 100 state highway toll plazas use FASTag for toll collection.

By January 2021, all vehicles will be required to use FASTag at toll booths since it accounts for over 80% of the total toll collected across national highways.

Here are the steps on how to get fastag for car

  1. Visit icicibank.com/fastag
  2. Select "New Customer"
  3. You will be directed to the FASTag online application page.
  4. Please fill in all the required information in the designated fields.
  5. Proceed with the payment
  6. Your FASTag will be sent to you by courier once your payment has been processed successfully.

FASTags are valid for a minimum of five years, so you don't have to worry about renewals. Toll deductions and FASTag account balance notifications can also be received via SMS.

Located on the windscreen of your vehicle, FASTags are linked directly to your prepaid wallet, which in turn can be linked directly to your Savings Account or Current Account, depending on which option you choose.

As the toll amount is deducted directly from your prepaid FASTag wallet, you are able to pass toll plazas on the highways completely cashless, so there is no need to carry cash with you.

There is no need for you to stop during your trip in order to pay a toll since the toll plaza records the information from the FASTag as the vehicle passes through, thereby eliminating the need for you to halt during your trip.

The government plans to integrate the FASTag as a multi-utility payment tool outside of highways as well, such as at parking lots, etc., where FASTag can be used as a payment tool for multiple utilities. Having a FASTag installed on your car can prove to be a very inconvenient ordeal, and from January 2021 it will be a mandate for all vehicles to be equipped with one. Make sure you get FASTag for your car so that you can support the country's digital ambitions and help it reach its goals.

By the end of April 2020, all cars carrying FASTags will be required to acquire third-party insurance, which is a mandatory insurance cover that is an essential part of all car insurance policies.

Furthermore, if you enter a FASTag lane without a FASTag, you'll be liable to pay double the amount of the toll if you enter without one.

Similarly, if your FASTag is not functional due to an impairment to the RFID or an insufficient balance, the same rule applies. Therefore, having a FASTag is both a matter of convenience as well as a matter of safety.
