Launched in 2012, the Mahindra XUV500 was positioned as a premium offering, featuring modern design and versatility. The model continued in production until October 2021.

According to the ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program) testing conducted in 2012, the Mahindra XUV500 received a 4-star safety rating.

The XUV500 scored 26 out of 37 possible points for occupant protection. In the frontal offset crash test ( recorded at 64km/h), it received 10 out of 16 points. The passenger compartment lost structural integrity during testing, with the structure supporting the trans-fascia tube partially separating from the A-pillar.

The ANCAP report doesn’t provide specific child occupant protection ratings, but in pedestrian protection tests, the XUV500 received a "Marginal" rating with a score of 10.06 out of 36 possible points.
