Every vehicle owner has to pay road tax in Arunachal Pradesh when buying a motor vehicle. Road tax in the state is computed according to the age, price, size, seating capacity, and brand of the vehicle. Vehicle weight and usage also affect the road tax.

Tax on Four-Wheelers in Arunachal Pradesh

The road tax in Arunachal Pradesh is based on the original cost of the vehicle.

Tax slabs for private vehicles are:

  • Below ₹3 lakh, the road tax is 2.5% of the vehicle cost.
  • If the price ranges between ₹3-5 lakh, the tax rate is 2.7%.
  • If the pricing is between ₹5 lakh and ₹10 lakh, the tax rate is 3%.
  • All cars priced in the range of ₹10 lakh and ₹15 lakh attract a 3.5% tax rate.
  • For cars ranging between ₹15 lakh and ₹18 lakh, the road tax rate is 4%.
  • Those costing in the range of ₹18 lakh to ₹20 lakh are levied with 4.5% road tax.
  • For those above ₹20 lakh, the tax charged is 6.5%.

For commercial four-wheelers:

  • With a capacity for six or less passengers and licenced to operate in one region or city, the annual road tax is ₹2,400.
  • With a capacity of six or less passengers and licenced to operate all over the state, the annual road tax levied is ₹4,000.

Old vehicles brought into Arunachal Pradesh are valued for taxation by considering depreciation each year. For this calculation, 7% of the vehicle's original road tax is computed with respect to its previous registration.
