Essential Steps to Ensure Your New Car Hits the Road in Prime Condition
Now that you know what a car PDI is, the question arises: What will you check in your new car? Here are some of the essential components of your car PDI checklist that you can’t afford to miss.
Check the exterior body panel of your car for any dents or scratches. Other considerations while seeing the exterior are:
- The bonnet, boot lid, doors, remote key lock, windscreen, window glasses, blinkers and wiper blades should operate smoothly.
- See whether the spare tyre and the wheels are unused. The tyres should have adequate tread and inflation pressure. Also, the alignment of the wheels should be correct.
- The paint on the car should be even on the entire body panel.
Once you are satisfied with the exteriors, glance at the interiors.
- Inspect the quality of the dashboard for any cracks or malfunctioning elements.
- Seats and door pads should be stain-free.
- Ensure that the seat belt adjustments and steering wheel function efficiently.
- Brake pads should be effective.
- Don’t forget to check the numbers on the odometer. The reading on it should be below 100 KM.
Thereafter, move on to inspecting of the electrical components installed in the car.
- Check whether the cooling system in the car works properly.
- AC vents should be dust-free.
- Scrutinise the ports, control buttons and the entire music system.
- The lighting peripherals, such as indicators, fog lights, headlights and interior lights, should be efficient.
- Test the horn as well.
Next comes the engine, the heart of your car and the fluid levels.
- In the bonnet of your car, look for signs of any oil spill or dust in the engine bay.
- See if the terminals of the battery are rust-free.
- Use a dipstick to gauge the fluid level.
- The coolant level should be as per the manufacturer’s guidelines.
At the end comes the time for a test drive. While you drive the car, assure yourself that the accelerator, brakes, clutch and gears work efficiently. Also, take the handover of duplicate keys from the dealer.
