Ayushman Bharat Eligibility Criteria for Rural and Urban People

PMJAY criteria for rural and urban Indians differ significantly while determining eligibility. Rural households are adjudged eligible or otherwise depending on a set of six deprivation criteria. The urban population is likewise identified depending on their engagement in one of the 11 pre-determined occupational categories.

The eligibility criteria for PMJAY alludes to the following categories of rural people:

a)     D1: Single room households with kucha walls and roof

b)    D2: Families without an adult member in the 16-59 age group

c)     D3:Families without an adult male member in the 16-59 age group

d)    D4: Households with a disabled member and no able-bodied adult

e)     D5: SC/ST families

f)      D6: Families that do not own land and earn by rendering manual casual labour

On the other hand, the parameters based on which the urban criteria for the Ayushman Bharat scheme are devised include the following occupational categories:

a)     Street vendors, cobblers, hawkers and other street service providers

b)    Domestic workers

c)     Rag pickers and beggars.

d)    Construction site workers, plumbers, masons, painters, welders, security guards and other head-load workers

e)     Coolies

f)      Sweepers, sanitation workers, and gardeners

g)     Transport workers including conductors, drivers, cart pullers etc.

h)    Artisans, home-based workers, handicraft workers and tailors.

i)       Washer men and watchmen (chowkidar)

j)      Electricians, mechanics, repair workers and assemblers

k)    Peons, helpers, shop workers, delivery assistants, attendants, waiters

Additionally, all senior citizens aged 70 years and more, irrespective of their socio-economic status and the prevailing geographical distinction, are automatically applicable for health coverage under this flagship scheme of the Indian government.
