Today, minors (children) under 18 years old must have a passport to travel. So, if you plan to travel overseas with your kids, you should apply for a minor's passport. However, the procedure and documentation for kids applying for passports differ slightly from those for adults.

Previously, proof of a minor's name on their father's passport was sufficient to travel overseas with the child. However, now you can apply for separate travel documents for your kids. Once you provide the necessary documents, the passport is issued to the minor based on the application you submit as either the parent or legal guardian.

Read on to understand how to apply fresh passport for a minor online.

The documents required to apply for the minor passport include the following:

  • Child's birth certificate
  • Proof of parent’s address
  • Copies of parent's passport
  • Proof of the parent's marital status
  • Minor’s passport-size photographs
  • Annexes "C" (for minors aged between 15-18) and "D" (for either parents or guardians)
  • Adoption papers with the child’s original photo, affirmed by the court (in case of an adopted child)
  • Any other document needed by the passport in charge

Conclusion

Parents should apply for a fresh passport with the necessary details when planning to travel with minors.

Most importantly, when applying for the travel document for the minor, remember to purchase travel insurance as well. The travel insurance will help cover unforeseen circumstances during the trip, such as medical emergencies and delayed flights. This will ensure a safer and hassle-free journey for your child.
